I sent a high bidder an auction confirmation two days ago and it has bounced back to me repeatedly. (It's a now defunct At Home address). I obtained their contact information, but it is also incorrect and an unrelated party answered the phone. I'm unsure what to do at this point. This is actually a person who has 73 positive feedback with no negatives. Any suggestions? I'm afraid this person is unaware that their email address is not defunct and is going to give me a negative due to contact failure.

Contact eBay's Rules and Safety at the following URL:
http://pages.ebay.com/help/basics/select-RS.html
Select the following items:
>>Member problems
>>Contact information
>>Choose the appropriate item from the third box
Explain the situation in the text box and let eBay figure out how to handle this one.
You can't get a negative if the winner is NARU...

try contacting the seller by using the send this auction to a friend link or via the checkout option. If you don't hear from him after those two methods odds are he is a deadbeat.

I have had 2 similar incidents recently with the @home email addresses, and wrong phone#, but all positive feedback. I didn't give negative feedback, but I did claim fvf fees. I feel bad that buyers are NARU'd because of it, but they really should change their email address on eBay, they have to realize when they don't receive any EOA notices from eBay that they have forgotten to change their address, and it makes it frustrating for sellers.

tomyou, the address that the "tell a friend" link uses is the registered e-mail address. If the ISP is defunct, the person is not a deadbeat - they are just not getting mail...

I had this exact same problem a week ago.
I tried everything possible, then I gave them a positive feedback saying "I cannot contact you via Email or phone, please contact me." ..
She contacted me within 2 hours.
I would not try this on a new bidder or one that has negs, but my bidder had about 80 Pos and 0 negs...

yea kahml you have a point. I have had a couple occasions where the mail I sent was not recieved or bounced for some reason or another and contact via the link worked out. and if the phone number is invalid also it appears they may have moved and forgot to change everything. none of the scenerios look very good for the seller.

Try to e-mail from a different e-mail address. I have had this problem in the past. I had my e-mail address stolen from one of those spammer companies. In turn, my e-mail address does get blocked by some people and often I get ahold of them with another e-mail address.
Good luck,

Yumacoot is correct--the home.com ISP no longer exists. In my area, Cox Cable used that for their high-speed internet, and everyone they serviced had to switch to a cox.net address. Your buyer probably just forgot to update eBay with their new address.
On the off chance that they might have created a hotmail or yahoo account in the transition to a new ISP, you could experiment (i.e. if their address was , try ) and see if you can reach them that way. Using feedback as a way to reach them is a good idea, but I'd use it as a last resort since people can be very touchy about it.
Without eBay, I might have a real life...

I have taken a very different stance lately on winning bidders with bounced e-mails. I have had two in the last couple of weeks (one a webtv address and the other a hotmail address) by e-mailing and asking them to verify the address.
The first time (hotmail) the customer e-mailed me from an alternate e-mail address stating that eBay informed them that I was having trouble getting through to them.
The second time (webtv) I received an e-mail from eBay thanking me for bringing this to their attention and the eBay user had changed their contact information and for me to try again using the new info.
I decided several months ago that I am going to make eBay responsible for these things. After all, we are paying good money and they should earn a little of it.
Edited to add: If it is an AOL address and since I have AOL, I will attempt one contact from there if there appears to be a problem. I can also tell when and if the e-mail was read by another AOL user.

Here is my story on bounced email. EOA email went through ok, the customer paid and I shipped the next day. I sent a shipped email, it bounced.
The same day the customer wanted to know the status of their product. I responded, it bounced. The next day I received the following email from the customer:
Hello. Could you please give me a status on these xxxxx? I paid for them within e-bay 2 days ago. Are you just taking my money?
Please let me know either way. At least you'd be an honest thief.
Thank You
I didn't phone for the call would eat away most of the profit on this item.
The customer has been on eBay all day with a feedback of (4)
I have not heard from him again so apparently he got his package about the time he was sending me email.
Thank God I haven't left feedback and neither has he.

I AM SICK OF BEING CALLED THIEVES! What is wrong with these people? Do they really think that we choose to have a problem with their orders from 1000's of others?
Do they honestly believe we say "Okay I have 20 orders today, lets pick this one to steal!"?
Maybe I just need a vacation, but these impatient jerks are really getting to me!
I'll bet that jackass never even says he is sorry for jumping the gun...thay never do...
