Ok Here is one for the ethics and legal committee. I sell and buy on Ebay. I am always looking for ways to do better. Today I received an e-mail (Sender unknown to me) telling me all about his current sales on ebay and Yahoo with a link to each lot. Great idea for the seller but I always thought you could not do that. i.e. Spam, etc. Can the seller get into do do, doing this?

dacreson did you do a "seller search" for the sender's email address? They may not be registered user of eBay or they may not be using their eBay registered email address.

Is it possible that you bought an item from this person a year or two ago and forgot. If so, that could be why you got the e-mail. Mostly as a friendly reminder of items this person has for auction. If you get another for the same items in a day or two, then it is spam.

It is against eBay rules to send you spam, but who is going to stop the spammer? As sellers, our contact information is open to unwelcome communication as well. Any e-mail harvester crawling the internet will add your address to its spam list. You could protect yourself by removing the link, but that would make it difficult for unregistered buyers to contact you.
