Just downloaded an e-mail sent by NP003Denver - a gov. office? stating that I sent an e-mail recently to someone with a nps.gov address with the subject "Congratulations" that was infected with the Klez virus and the file infected was Rjd.pif. Trouble is I never use the word Congratulations as a subject and I do not have the name of the receiver of this infected e-mail in my records. Also I update my Norton weekly and just did again and no infected files were found as usual. Anyone have any input on this?

You likely don't have it. This nasty virus sends out mail that pretends to come from names in the infected computer's address book. ie. someone who has you in their address book is infected, not you.

Thanks so much - That must be why I do not recognize the name of the receiver. It could have been put in the address book years ago.

This is the reason I delete my address book every few months. I know the ones I email regularly and I don't want any of my buyers infected just because they are in my address book.

This may not be foolproof but it is the best I can do.

I got the email yesterday. It said Congratulations as the subject line, and it had no content at all. The sender part said Legend.

Norton caught it which I was very happy about.

Seems like I get 1 to 3 emails infected with one virus or another almost every day. Without Norton I guess my PC would in big trouble.

I got one today with the title "ebay questionaire". The sender did not even have an eBay account.

Best way to prevent this virus from spreading is to be sure all your address book have no addresses in them turn off the books that offer this feature including outlook ICQ MIRC and other address books if you have to keep email addresses keep them in note pad or on paper in a book near your computer.

if everyone did this even if they acidently got infected by one of these macro trojans they would be dead with no where to send them self once they infect the computer.

In order to better protect from getting these file program macros and trojans that hijack your computer turn off the auto Recieve file in all your programs including but not limited to FTP servers mail ICQ MIRC and others this way you must click ok to recive any file sent to your computer at any time very handy if you have DSL or cable and are connected 24/7 to another lan system.

if you receive these messages and find they are coming from most the same provider even if from different users write to that system admin and let them know ISPs are more then willing to lockout users who have been notifyed they have these trojans and won't take care of it rather then have there service IP numbers block around the internet.

VIrus scanners and programs are good to have if you can afford them but they are not the answer to stopping the spead of these macros and trojans.

its far better for internet users to be well informed and use good ole pencil and paper of note pad to protect email addresses then to become responcable for infecting hundereds of computers over and over again with the same bugs daily and hourly.

if your mail program will allow remove your return email address from the set up add your return address to the body of the email its self this way these torjans and macros can't falsly use get your email address to fake or poof headers IP or ISPs from email you send to others.

if you email program don't allow you to remove the return address from the set up get another webbased email address and use that in the return area of the set up.
