Is anyone else finding that people are really stalling on paying lately? From my auctions two weeks ago, I find that around half the items still haven't been paid for (not to mention the four deadbeats I mentioned in the other thread that are going on a month!). Usually, I'm pretty lenient, not going for the throat until they've hit 21 days (and no FVF until 31), but this doesn't look good at all.

I use the BIN option and my buyers usually pay by PalPal. It sure is nice when they do that, then I can get the merchandise out of my house faster.

cougar,
I have also noticed payments coming in slow as well. Even the PayPal payments. I always give two weeks before e-mailing a second time so checks have time to come in the mail. In most cases, I get then within a week, but lately most have taken longer. Unsure why though. I haven't had any deadbeats in a while, just slow payments. I haven't personally paniced about it as I do give much more liberal time than most sellers here at AW, but you do raise a good question as to why payment are being sent later.

One thing that I have used, as really a last resort, is really straight forward. When a bidder bids on an item, they are entering into a legal and binding contract to purchase. I simply email the individual, again, when all else fails, and explain like this: You enetered into a legal and binding contract to purchase this, you have not (either) sent payment---or replided to our e-mails---(or both) we are preparing to file non-paying bidder notices with Ebay, and are preparing to send the information to the local credit bureau where you reside for them to commence collection, this can and will add extra charges to the amount you agreed upon. please contact us asap to avoid not only the negative feedback/non-paying bidder notice (which may result in your suspension from all ebay activities), but to also avoid the extra fees that the credit bureau will add on to the auction prices. If there is a problem, and you do need additional time, now is the time to tell us. Thanks--***your name, auction # etc*---------This has had great success, and although I would never go to the expense of doing this, if you , at the same time, go into the find field, in ebay, and request the user info, not only will you get their phone number, if you wish to call them, but THEY receive a copy that you have requested the info, really "wakes them up"

I've noticed so many slooow payments through the mail lately.

I also have people reply to my EOA saying 'Paypal is on its way' and I really hate to ask them when. Its usually on the third or fourth day I'll email them asking if they are still planning on using PayPal.

I just had one respond to an EOA notice I sent last night, she said, 'This really threw me off guard, I'll have to wait and send you a check, because we were supposed to be paid on the 15th and weren't'

The total with shipping on that was $11.00, I have to wonder why winning a bid she placed 'threw her off guard'.

I wonder why people bid sometimes. I hate sending 'second notices'.

Lots of deadbeats and slow pays. Now I'll be stuck with these things until sales for these items pick back up.

Payments are getting slower and more NPB's. It has caused me to hardly put anything up for sale this month. Things were really cooking until recently. It is not worth the time to create the ads or the effort or the expense of listing.

Same problems here. Oct-Jan we had a hard time with non paying bidders and those who simply took their time paying. Feb-April sales were way down but only two problem bidders. Currently we have more non paying bidders and late payments.

What always throws me off is when a buyer responds to the NPB Warning and says "You have to wait until I get paid"
Why do people bid when they don't have any money?

They're probably the same ones holding the bill collectors at bay...watch out if you're accepting personal checks from them! (unless you like a bouncy-bouncy)

Yes, I too noticed. I had to file 14 NPB in the last month, and out of that 6 FVF, and the irony is only one was a newbie with a zero, the other 5 had a good number, lowest was 54, the highest was 2004! And none got NARU'ed, and IF I give the five deadbeats with feedbacks, 4 of them I WOULD be their FIRST negative. In fact you know you are introuble when zero newbies are quicker to pay then ones with numbers!

P.S you know one way you know bidders wount pay? When they do checkout, next day AFTER you give them the total in their FiRST checkout. Then another day later, ANOTHER checkout, AGAIN you respond, then 2 days later ANOTHER checkout, you ignore that, you dont get payment, file NPB, you dont hear a peep from them, and then FVF. Odd, huh?

"Why do people bid when they don't have any money?"

"you have to wait until my next payday"

They seem to be treating it like a charge card bill.

Is this where we link to the discussion about sellers auctioning product they don't have (yet)? eBay used to be an auction center. Now with all the discussion about stores and businesses, it's easy to see why attitudes have changed. If you're going to proclaim yourself as a retail store, you should expect to be treated like one.

"They seem to be treating it like a charge card bill. "

Which they're probably not paying either (LOL)

Never had much of a problem before but this past 2 or so weeks out of 6 items listed, one is certainly going to be a NPB and two said the check was going out the next day and after 9 days for the last 2 - no checks. And to make matters worse - no answers to e-mail inquiries if they perhaps forgot or incorrectly addressed. Apparently bidding and sniping is fun but paying is another matter.

Doesnt anyone ever use the user request function? It isnt a sure fire thing, but it does give you, usually, a phone number to call. I really dont have a big problem with this, combining this strategy and the one I mentioned earlier, and then, its only been perhaps 3 in the last 6 months

Only Money Order Buyers. I have recently started international Sales and many of those people have Paypal and pay immediately.
