My library resources are woefully limited...Can anyone help me identify this piece of Hull Pottery...ie: pattern, age (date made), realistic auction price, etc? I've included a photo of the piece and the bottom...On the bottom is "Hull Art" and the number H-3 5 1/2 (It stands 5 1/2 inches tall). Thanks for any help/info. The piece is in mint/perfect condition.

I believe this is an old Hull Magnolia Art Pottery ewer: "Also called New Magnolia. Most of the shapes in the glossy line are the same as the matte; they consist of hand-painted pink or blue embossed Magnolias on a solid pink glossy background." According to the resource book I have(Official Price Guide to Pottery & Porcelain, 8th Edition), this dates from 1947. However, it does not list a 5&1/2 inch ewer, only an 8&1/2 and 13&1/2. The 8&1/2 inch ewer "books" for $75.00 in mint condition. However, I find that book prices are grossly inflated, especially for eBay purposes. It looks like it's in good condition, except for glaze crazing. I would start it at about $25 and just see where it goes.

This is the "New Magnolia" line, a tad later than "Magnolia" and characterized by the glossy glaze. With the gold trim, your ewer will command a bit more than without. I would price it around $125 at one of my shows, but don't expect that on ebay.
