In the last three weeks I haven't been able to go much beyond the home page of ebay; I get a Netscape error message. This is not happening at any of my other bookmarks at all, and my husband can't get on with his computer, either. I've been getting hints that there's a problem, but this is horrible. I'm reluctant to begin selling again when I can't research the categories.
Anybody have a suggestion? I am really depressed over this.
All you have to do to fix this problem in Netscape is go to Edit/Preferences/Advanced. Make sure the the boxes beside Java and Javascript are not x'ed. With Java turned off, you should have a much easier time surfing ebay.
Be sure to turn java back on when you want to list an auction or if you go to another web page. A lot of different sites use Java now and you have to have it turned on in order to make the page work.
I've made it a habit of turning java off as a default. I turn it on when I list, or when I'm at a web page that won't work without it.
I'm using Netscape 4.2 or something like that. If you have the newer version, I'm not sure where to go to turn java off.
I was listing an auction last night, but Netscape shut down just before I had a chance to hit 'submit'. I had to try three different times to get that one auction started.
Hope this helps.
Edited to add:
As an extra added bonus, when you turn Java off, you never have to look at those annoying Casino or pop up ads. I like that.

Ho ho, classicrock!
And thanks, monkeysuit. We've tried lots of things suggested on the ebay tech. issues forum and nothing has worked. It is soooo frustrating I want to take a hammer to my computer - or Meg! Any other suggestions, anyone?

The only thing I can think of is updating your netscape or go to Internet Explorer and try that. You should be at 5 or higher, in both netscape or IE, but then after you update your browser besure and restart your computer. Better yet call your tech support at your ISP and maybe they can solve your problem for you. Mine is real helpful...Sometimes I talk to them for hours, but it is better call late at night as they aren't so busy.

When all else fails try Opera. I keep all three browsers on my computer, Internet Explorer, Netscape, and Opera. If one won't work one of the others usually will.

That's not all that is wrong with ebay. I went to click on "sellers other auctions" and I got an error message that ebay ran into a technical problem. Never did find out what else I could have bought from that person.
Also, when I clicked on "Buy It Now" at the top of the category page, I was redirected to an unrelated category.
I wonder how many overall lost sales are made every week due to ebay problems.

Ebay has the arrogance to think everyone should emulate their choice in browsers.
The reason the site is such a cumbersome mess is that one day they decided that it was not important if their pages worked for all browsers.
Frankly, if they were forced to backtrack and work only with code and features that were universally accepted, then ebay would be a far more friendly and easy to use place.
