I bought what looks like a candy dish yesterday, with cut out border work, and a floral pattern in the center. On the bottom is marked a capital "K" nothing else. It looks Bavarian, but I'm not sure. I've spent ages looking on the internet but when I do a search on "K", I seem to get every word in the English language with a k in it!

Thanks stopwhining, I have checked all the Kaisers I can find on the internet, and none have just a "K" and you can't look it up on eBay because every word containing a K would come up. It is an impressed mark, not written.

Is it possible there are other characters that are worn or difficult to see?

No,there are no other marks, and the "K" is quite deeply impressed. I have seen the mark somewhere before, I just can't remember where.

Why don't you post a photo of the piece?

From your description it sounds like a reticulated basket, early Limoges, probably circa 1850 to 1870.

If the piece is reticulated, it could be German also. Keep in mind, though, that the French Paris manufacturers made Saxon porcelain based on Meissen styles.

If there is gold on the piece, that is how you will identify it by country and age, because the look of the gold is different for each country. Bavarian gold will be totally different than French gold. To confirm, look for some French porcelain auctions for the time period I mentioned that will show you close up photos of the gold trim.

I need a picture, but there is simple "K" mark on Klosterle pieces, made in Bohemia. These are very, very old, dating from the late 1700s to the early 1800s.

Thanks kiara, I'm very proud of myself!! One more question about putting on pictures, I did this one by uploading it onto Auctionwatch first, is that the only way to do it? Is it possible to do it directly from my computer? Also, does Auctionwatch charge a fee to put pictures on this forum.

amber, yes you will have to upload it to AW or another picture host first.

So far AW hasn't charged me for pics that I use in this forum.

Does anyone else have any ideas on this piece? I have no idea what to list it under. It is very thin porcelain, and measures 63/4" x 41/2". Any help would be greatly appreciated. Just a reminder, it has a letter "K" indented on the underside.

My marks guide shows a "K" for Upper Franconian Porcelain Factory (Ohnemuller & Ulrich) Kups, Bavaria, Germany Porcelain
1896-ca.1919 (1890-1919). The arms of the "k" are thicker than the post, if that helps.

I have checked out Upper Franconian Porcelain Factory (Ohnemuller & Ulrich) Kups, Bavaria, Germany Porcelain, and it doesn't seem to be that. Any more ideas anyone? What should I list it under? What should I call it?

Can you post a foto of the mark? That would simplify trying to identify it.
