I have been shopping for boxes that are comparable to the #4 & #7's of Priority Mail. The best that I have been able to find were from a local paper distributer. These must be ordred in bundles of 25.
8x8x8 $.65 ea.
12x12x8 .97 ea.
12x12x12 1.01 ea.
Anyone have a better price?
Even with cost of a box & the $1.10 home delivery charge, FedEx Ground beats Priority Mail across the board using a 4 lb. pkg & less than $50.00 value for ins. FedEx is lower by .81 on Zones 1/2/3 & $4.09 lower on Zone 8!! Blows your mind doesn't it?

Check out reliable.com. Not the best boxes in the world as they usually are seconds and don't match exactly right, but I have been using them for months.
You do have to order in quantities of 25 and the prices are:
8x8x8 - .44
12x12x8=.87
But they offer their most used box size 12x12x12 at .69
Free shipping also.

Some larger cities have used box distributors. These are not really used but are end lots from a variety of manufacturers and are generally about 50% off the wholesale costs.
Just recently i found an electronics company that has 3M products shipped daily. They are double strength and i turn them inside out and they look great. I love the price...free.
But I have been purchasing white boxes for over 10 years now and the prices you have are about what they will cost at most distributors and they are almost always sold in bundles of 25.

My suggestion on boxes is at the following location.http://www.uline.com/
They ship from Chicago, Minneapolis, Los Angeles, Newark and Atlanta so there should ba a shipping location close to you. I live in Alabama and my orders come from Atlanta which is 110 miles away. Usually have them in two days after ordering. Large quantities are shipped truck freight. Smaller orders are shipped UPS.
8x8x8 0.31¢ ea. in bundles of 25 or more
12x12x8 0.49¢ ea. in bundles of 25 or more
12x12x12 0.51¢ ea. in bundles of 25 or more
These folks are open 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Call them and get a catalogue or you can order one on line. 1-800-295-5510
I've been useing them since 1/4/02

I should also mention that the above prices do not include shipping cost. Your shipping cost will vary dependant on the distance from the shipping source.
When you place an order check out truck freight and UPS shipping cost on your order. They are very friendly and will tell you to the penny what your total cost are and the cheapest way to have your boxes shipped.
If you order by 6:00 PM the boxes are shipped the same day.

I have a regular route I stop when out and check the dumpster at a party and paper decoration store a hardware and a pharmacuticals place.
They put out more clean boxes in good shape than I could ever use. I have even thought of re-selling them but I could only make $3 to $5 for a bundle that with shipping would be half price from say u-line and that is not worth bundling and taking them to be shipped.

I've been the used box, pick up at dumpster route. If you want to go to all that trouble there is nothing wrong with it. A lot of it depends on what you sell and how many boxes you use each day.
There are several disadvantages to it as far as i'm concerned.
1. Storage of lets say 25 used boxes without breaking them down takes up a lot of room.
2. Going through those boxes to find the right size for shipping is a hassle that I don't have to go through with a nice neat stack of 25 to 100 boxes that are folded flat with the sizes visible.
3. Put 25 - 35 boxes in a full size pickup truck and it's usually full. I use more than 25 boxes most days of the week so I don't have time, gas nor patients to go find boxes each day. It's very inconvenient and I have better things to do with my time.
4. You don't get a tax write off on used boxes.
5. New boxes are clean and you don't have to scribble thru other company logos.

Only trying to help those that ask about the best place to order boxes at the best price.
The first question was:
Anyone have a better price?
Please note I said there is nothing wrong with getting your boxes from a dumpster if that's your cup of tea. I've been there and done that.
I don't have a large warehouse nor a large truck and I do use a lot of boxes. I order a minimum of 1000 boxes each order in several different sizes.
Yes I am a business. I make much more on eBay than my Army retirement each month.
Again, to each his own. Only trying to help.

We have used both Uline and Papermart as suppliers with good service from both. Be sure to check them against each other as some sizes have big differences in price among the two and it changes often...
As to storing used boxes, we keep a few here now, but greatly reduced the amount after an experience this year where the landlord was coming for an inspection on our rental house and I decided to clean up the 2 car garage aka shipping area that was loaded with old boxes. It took TWO DAYS of throwing boxes out in the driveway and breaking them down for trash pick-up, and so many were loaded with spiders, earwigs, lizards(in FL)and other nasty crawlies that it amazed me. My poor nieghbors had no clue what was going on as we filled our drive with junk boxes! Now, I keep some big, good used ones but keep an assortment of nice clean new Priority and purchased boxes on a row of shelves. Much neater, easier to find, and less bug ridden!

PaperMart rules! - By far the best service I have ever received from any company. Have yet to find lower pricing. They have a great web site that shows your order history even if you call your orders in. Next day shipping (free in my area) is another benefit. They are fantastic and I tout them whenever I have the opportunity to do so. Check them out!
Leave the dumpster crap for JACK.. HAHAHA

Well, you'll never guess where I buy my boxes...
Staples! Before ya scream, each month, they send me an online coupon for $30 off purchase of $150!
They also have a new line of cheaper cor-boxes that serve me fine! Combined with the FREE DELIVERY, I do pretty well with them!

PaperMart sound fine if a person lives on the West coast. I live in Alabama so i'm sure shipping cost would far outweigh the advantages of a few cents in lower prices.
That's why I recommended Uline to everyone. The prices are compairable and they have shipping locations that are close to almost any eBayer.
I've also ordered from Associated Bag:
http://www.associatedbag.com/ and they are good to do business with but they are in Milwaukee, WI so the shipping cost were to much for me. They would be great for people living in that area.

I live in a small town in Central CA & we have no big industrial area to hunt for boxes in dumpsters. Thank all of you who came up with logical answers. I live in a Mobil Home & have a 8 X 10 storage shed. Where in H++++ would I store used boxes?

Two of the three stores I stop at fold the boxes flat to put them in the dumpster and they usually put a stack of 10 or 15 of the same size broken down flat in at the same time. Sometimes they even pack a larger box full of smaller ones all of the same size to throw out.
I buy cans of cardboard colored stencil spray to paint out any bar codes.
since I use almost all small boxes I can pack enough in the back seat of my Honda to last me a month. The exception is records. I cut a
bunch of square flats using a plywood template I made right at the dumpster until I have a foot or two stack of them.
I sparay contact adhesive on the faces at home and make a shipper with three glued together layers on each side of the record. Very hard to bend - about 3/4 inch thick total.

I didn't come to this board to get in a contest with anyone about the branch of
service they were in. As far as i'm concerned all branches were and are great.
I spent 20 years in the Army and worked with both Navy and Marines alike. I have
nothing but praise for both services.
I hope that everything I say is constructive and beneficial for all. I'll just leave it at
that. No need to plough the same grown twice.

And you can all despise me 'cause I never was physically able to serve. But the family sent enough off and the ones that came back were drunks and nicotine or dope addicts and otherwise screwed up from lack of medical attention and injury so the price must have been paid enough to stretch to cover another generation. Had father and uncles in every branch. Never heard them slam each other a word.

I just had to bump this back up and get your opinion on a supplier I found. The company is http://gandaprecycling.com "Precycling" is a new word to me but I'm looking for a large quantity of 34"x6"x6" boxes to ship silk flowers. They have 32"x6"x5 1/2" boxes for $.25 each. Buyers have to read the list carefully as some of the boxes have printing and the "test" weight is important. Still, they seem to have such low prices, even on the plain boxes. Opinions please.
