Did y'all notice the $0.00 price by each of the supplies with this new usps.com supply order form??? ... AND the 'shopping cart' logo ... we knew the supplies wouldn't be free forever ... they're settin' up to start charging moolah --- porfere

At this point the USPS would be fools to start charging for Priority mail shipping boxes and supplies. That is the one advantage they have over UPS or Fedex. If we have to start paying for boxes what's the point in shipping priority mail?

Yikes ~ after I read this post ..... went online to order my boxes !
You are right on ... matter of days before they start charging us & looks like they are going to charge us shipping on them to boot !! They have the credit card link button in place so .. get em & stock up while you can ** NOW **

Yup. The free shipping supplies are about all they have going. And the free online delivery confirmation labels. That's a plus.
But after mailing out some packages at the new rates, I am definitely going to check out UPS.
Actually, I may be getting tired of this whole business! Fees and shipping are eating my profits...

The Priority supplies will remain free. People ordering a bunch of supplies they don't need is what will someday change that.

They simply changed the format of their site and combined priority mail supplies with everything else. They will remain free, at least for a while.

The price of the boxes were always built into the price of postage, but I could see them charging extra for them rather than another Priority rate change. After going to a zone based rate system, anything goes now.

If the same geniuses that dreamed up zoned rates for 2 -5 lbs have any say in the matter, you can expect to start paying for those boxes within the next 90 days. You can also expect to see longer lines at FedEx and UPS as a result. The free boxes are the only thing that USPS has going for it at this time, and it's the only thing that is keeping many of their customers from jumping ship.
The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

YOU FOLKS NEED TO SET UP BUSINESS ACCOUNTS AND OR COMBINE FORCES WITH ANY LOCAL FACTORIES IN YOUR AREAS. UPS PICKS THE STUFF RIGHT UP FROM THEM AND IT IS CHEAPER AT COMMERCIAL SITES,,,,,,GIVE THE FACTORY SECRETARY $3.00 PER TRANSACTION AND ADD IT TO THE UPS. THE CUSTOMERS YOU SEND TO NEVER SEE THE RATE. MY GIRL IS ONE HAPPY CAMPER TO SEE ME WALK IN THE DOOR. 80 UPS'S A MONTH MIN. YOU FIGURE IT OUT.

If the USPS starts charging for boxes - they will kill what they have left of their business...
They don't seem to have much business sense anyway - they lose customers, so they increase rates and run more customers off....makes great sense!!!
When they start charging for boxes, UPS will get the rest of our business - we already have a daily UPS pickup, but ship small items USPS/Priority/U-Pic Insured with Free Delivery Confirmation.

I don't believe that the USPS is going to start charging for expedited shipping supplies. They are starting to keep less of these supplies at individual post offices and in return making them easier for the average person to order the supplies via their online store or toll-free number. The reason for the $0.00 price is because the shopping cart needs a price on all items to make a tally. This also makes it possible to order 25 boxes and some stamps as well. Make sense?! Besides, they already do charge for the boxes, in a sense, through the price you pay for Priority Mail/Express Mail.
In response to JACKSWEBB:
This is how I figure it... First of all, I think your "caps lock" button is stuck. Second of all, if you are paying someone $3 per package you send, on top of normal UPS rates, and are sending 80 packages a month, that totals to $240 a month. OR, you could just pay the UPS daily pick-up fee of $4 and spend about $80 a month instead. You then wouldn't have to take the packages anywhere, they will come to you! I figured it out.

IMPRESSA5,,,,THE $3.00 IS A COURTESY FOR THE FINE LADIES PAPERWORK. IT IS CHARGED TO THE CUSTOMER AS SHIPPING EXPENSES. YUP, AVERAGES AROUND $240.00 SHE IS VERY APPRECIATIVE OF IT. IT'S A HUGE COMPANY. THEY DON'T "NEED" ME AROUND THEIR FACTORY. THEY LIKE ME AS A PERSON.
THIS FACTORY HAS A SHIPPING SECTION. 40 FOOT TABLE, ROLLS OF BROWN WRAPPING PAPER, MILES OF TAPE. ROLLS OF PLASTIC SHRINK WRAP. A SHIPPING SCALE UP TO 400 POUNDS. THE UPS BOOK. (I STILL GET MY OWN BOXES FROM YET ANOTHER FACTORY). PLUS,,,A REAL PERSON TO TAKE CARE OF ANY UPS PROBLEMS.
EVERY FRIDAY THEY HAVE A HUGE EMPLOYEE BAR B Q, LIQUID REFRESHMENTS TOO . I BOUGHT A COMMERCIAL BUNN COFFEE GRINDER AT THE SWAP MEET ONE DAY, HENCE FRESH GROUND BEAN COFFEE, GOURMET. THE EMPLOYEES LOVE IT. I MAKE THE FIRST MORNING POT.
IT'S A BRISK STRESS RELIEVING 263 STEPS ROUND TRIP WALK OVER THERE. GETS ME AWAY FROM HERE FOR A FEW AND I ACTUALLY GET TO SEE THE SUNSHINE.
THERE ARE, OTHER SMALL BUSINESS PEOPLE IN THE COMPLEX. THEY LOOK AT USING THEIR FACILITIES AS,,,,,WELL JUST A PACKAGE NOW AND THEN. THEY HAVE NEVER GIVEN HER SO MUCH AS $1.00.
ALL THIS FOR $3.00 PER PACKAGE,,,,,,WHAT A BARGAIN.

Who wants to support the government anyway? They have never figured out how to do anything right. It's hard to give up shipping media rate or first class but anything that can go Priority or Parcel Post should be shipped by Fedex.

QUICKDRAW,,,,,I AM SO BUSY BUT,IF I HAD THE THE TIME I WOULD BE THE FIRST TO ORGANIZE A BOYCOTT OF THE POST OFFICE. SIGNS AND PICKETS. I BET IF JUST THE E BAY SELLERS OF AMERICA ALONE STOPPED GOING TO THE POST OFFICE THEIR RATES MIGHT QUICKLY ADJUST,,,,,,DOWNWARD. HAHAHHAHA. WE ARE THE REASON THEY RAISED THE RATES IN THE FIRST PLACE.

I checked with USPS HQ types a few months ago on this issue and they told me there we no plans afoot to start charging for supplies.

I seriously wonder if the Post Office resents eBayers. I would assume that anything that brought them increased business would be welcome. But really, eBayers are frequently welcomed with hostility. That's even when the packages are prepaid and ready to ship.

About 2 months before Six Flags bought out Sea World, the SW rep made a public statement in the newspaper that there was no truth to the rumor that Sea World was selling out the Six Flags.
My Post Office didn't even know the rates were going up when it was first posted on AW.
