I sell items that range in weight between 1/2 pound to 5 or 6 pounds. My biggest problem recently has been the use of the AW WBN. Unless you put a price in for shipping, the notice will not automatically send. I really enjoy knowing I can not check my email for a day and my business still runs smoothly. So, because of the new USPS rates, I have listed each zone seperately on the auction, which includes my small handling fee, and then a link to the USPS Zone Chart so they can find out which zone they are in. For the shipping information I check the 'other' box and type 'USPS Priority Insured extra' and then in the price I put $1.30. I figured people would be able to figure it out. Even with the checkbox to allow them to alter the shipping charges I have received payments 3 days in a row for the item price plus only the insurance rate. This is nuts!
I have been thinking of switching to a base rate per item, shipped anywhere. Using the Zone 8 charges plus the possible insurance, regardless of where they are. It would make things easier, but I don't know if it would fly with the customers, and it is too slow in sales to really trust a 'trial run'. Any help or suggestions? I would really love it...

I started doing fixed price shipping priced slightly less than zone 8. I figure that I lose a bit on zone 8 but gain a bit on the rest.
I quote parcel post rates on anything over 2 pounds and give them the option to upgrade to priority. If it is under 13 ounces, I give them the option of first class.
I guess I will have to wait and see how it works out.

I went with listing a range (for First Class
and Parcel Post) and a flat fee for items
that qualify for Media Mail and also listing
my zip code, and it is going great! No one
is complaining, and no problems so far.
Good luck!
