Hello. Does anyone here have any first hand knowledge of how Billpoint handles chargebacks if a bidder pays for his bids with a stolen credit card that the seller had NO way of knowing about? Does the seller have any recourse at all, and if not, does Billpoint take the chargeback amount out of the seller's BANK account or the seller's credit card on file? I'm worried about my bank account being overdrafted without my consent and the subsequent "ripple effect" of bank/Billpoint fees because of a chargeback or whatever it's called when a bidder uses an unauthorized credit card. Even his Billpoint billing address & statement address are different, but in the same state. I ask these questions because I've found out that a previously naru'd ebay user is back with another ebay ID, and is bidding on the same type of items, and has the same name & address as he did before he was naru'd by ebay. Oddly enough, his feedback (low teens) showed no negative feedback and he'd only been around for a month or so with the suspended ebay ID. He bids VERY high and pays relatively quickly
via Billpoint. It's as though he doesn't care
how high he has to bid, as if it's not HIS
credit card (Visa) he's using on Billpoint.
He's doing the same thing now with his current alias, behind ebay's back.

I could really use some good advice right now, and I know better than to tip my hat to ebay or Billpoint at this time, since they won't help anyway and that'll just make my auctions more of a target in the future by this bidder. He has at least 3 known ebay ID's (1 suspended), and I've already figured out that he shills his own auctions and says VERY similar things in the feedback he leaves under the various accounts.

Thanks for any tips anyone can give.

Jack

If you know this as a fact, turn them into ebay fast.

As far as billpoint goes, they will get the money back from you if its a stolen CC.
They do tell you this in their tos.

A smiliar thing happened to me. I am not sure if it was a joke or prank or something. But someone bid and paid for my item with a stolen cc. So when bill came, the rightful owner of the credit card filed a chargeback.

I actually mailed the package to the address, but back them I do not think Billpoint did credit card billing address and shipping address matching since it only showed me a shipping address.

Anyhow, the package came back with the item damaged and I got a chargeback. It cost me the price of the item (less than $10) PLUS $10 in a chargeback fee. I was hopping mad at the additional $10!

They do not withdraw money from your bank account without letting you know first. They send you a warning a day (?) or two before so you will not overdraft.

I wrote Billpoint and asked about it, and the rep said, "Price of doing business," but was nice enough to offer to get Visa to waive the chargeback fee of $10.

In the end, I got my $10 back (thanks to Billpoint, but then they caused it in the first place), was out the item (since it looks like someone stepped on the package at some point). Well, it was a package of collector's ramen noodle from Asia (seriously, you can check out what I sell on eBay), so I can still eat it if I get super hungry.

My bidder really did have quite good feedback. I was going to neg him for not contacting me first before the chargeback. I am not sure what happened, but he NEVER contacted me either way. It took months to get this resolved, and I missed my chance to snipe his feedback. Boo!
