I'm sure there are lists and maybe easier ways of determining the eBay # for any given category but I just found a quick method as I am trying to avoid the 2.0 listing form as long as possible by using the old form.

Usually when I have an item to list I try to find the best category in which to list the item. I'll search for similar items and see where the item was placed in current and closed auctions. The problem always is that the category name will always be displayed but never the category number. I just tried right-button clicking on the displayed category of an auction and a popup menu appears and then I clicked on the properties section at the bottom of the popup menu. There will be a URL address like http://listings.ebay.com/aw/plistings/list/category59/index.html on the screen. The number after category is the category number ( 59 in this case ).

It makes it very easy to derive the category number when using the listing form and selecting secondary categories when listing.
