I used to be a buyer and seller on half.not.com. Now that Barnes and Nobles gives you free shipping when you buy 2 items and discounts their items, many times it works out to be cheaper than buying on half(which many times is not half).com. I also get my items quicker through B & N than I do from sellers on 1/2 because they use media mail which can take a long time. If you buy 2 or more items on 1/2.com you pay double postage since, most times, it is from separate sellers. Just my one cent worth (1/2 of two cents worth).

Be careful when buying used books on BN.com ~ through arrangement with ABEbooks.com they relist books found on that site at higher prices on the BN website. You can find EXACTLY the same books at www.ABEbooks.com at lesser prices, and you have the choice of ordering through ABEbooks' secure server, or contacting the bookseller directly.
all best,

I am not talking about used books, I am talking about NEW books still being cheaper due to no shipping costs on B & N.

I checked out your website, the Oprah page did not load. My point is B & N has FREE SHIPPING!!! And it is first class, not media mail.

We quote Media Mail because that is what 99.9% of our customers request. We will ship any way our customer requests. Even paying for S&H you will pay less than at B&N.
I just check the site & our Oprah page came up ok. Are you looking for a certain title? We may have it even if it is not up yet. We can send you a scan if you are concerned about condition.
Thanks for checking us out!!

I find the same thing with both B & N and Amazon depending what kind of "special" they are running at the time. A lot of times I will go to http://www.flamingoworld.com/ and find a very good Internet discount code that takes even more off the total. For instance B & N is running these special right now.
BarnesAndNoble.com
$20 off $200. Code: Z37YGT2 exp. 7-30
5% off $40+ Code: ZZGZP98 exp. 7-24
So with there free shipping the 5 % of then I come in through a link on www.mypoints.com where for every dollar I spend there I get points towards gifts certificates for places like grapevine eating place I make out very well. Better then half.com or Ebay.

I'll try it again. I don't really care about condition as long as it is readable. I am just browsing. Kelly Ripa's books from Regis and Kelly are fun, also.

I find it hard to believe B&N is cheaper "many times" than half.com. Can you show us some examples?
Most books on Half sell for less than on ebay. The prices I see from wholesalers are often higher than the prices on ebay or Half, so I do wonder how B&N, who buys from wholesalers can pull it off.

Look it up yourself, by the time you add postage it is cheaper. Now, you have to buy 2 items to get free shipping and with Half.com you pay double shipping because for the most part, it is from 2 individuals. I recently bought Good in Bed (very cute book, not really naughty like the title implies) and About a Boy. Total was $2.50 less than the best I could do on Half.com at the time and they were new books. Check it out. I do not work for B & N. I am just making an obsevation. Once when I ordered a new Oprah book that had just been announced on Oprah from Half.com, the seller canceled my order (since they assumed they could get more for it now that it was an Oprah selection) then proceeded to resubmit the exact same book for a higher price, higher than, I might add, than a NEW book form B & N.

Did some research, About A Boy. Half.com ranges from 13.10 (acceptable) to only one book at 8.45 (both prices include shipping.) This is a paperback. Most were 11.00-12.00. B & N 9.06 for a new book and faster shipping. Do some research on what you are interested in, may not always come out ahead, but you are not relying on idividuals that even though they are supposed to ship in 24 hours, don't. Sometimes my books have been postmarked 8-10 days after they have confirmed. Also, these are new books, which you can then turn around and sell on 1/2 (sometimes).com. The above book quotes are not 1/2 since the book retails for about $11.00 and most of the prices are not half, including the one and only one that is $6.00 + shipping.

I have a correction to my last post. The book retails for $12.95. Only 1 of the 10 books listed is 1/2 of retail. 9 are not, this does not include shipping. Shipping is in addition to the nothalf prices.

Half's shipping rates are also inflated. Not all the money you pay for shipping goes to the vendor to cover their expenses. Some of it goes back to Half. This is on top of their "15% commission".

That would make Half's shipping rates underflated. Sellers don't receive money to cover packaging or handling.
