I sell out of the package star wars figures in all of my auctions. I have the best pictures out of anyone and because of this my pictures get ripped off a lot. Usually the person is smart enough to host it them selves but in this case he's pulling it off of my server....this is what happens when people do this!!!

Can you rename that picture then load some wierd picture in place of that one to show up in his auction? that seems to be the best revenge.

How about placing text that says "I'm not an honest seller that steals photos"?
You are in a position of retailation from this sellers but he seems harmless enough.

With all due sympathy for you, I'm afraid eBay might view this as "auction interference"...and end up penalizing you.
Amyone else have an opinion about it?
Rariffle's suggestion might be better.

eBay has no jurisdiction on what images you put in your personal image hosting site. If the seller doesn't want that in their auction, they can use their own pictures.
I can see it now: "Safeharbor? Yeah, I stole this person's picture, and now they changed it, so it isn't the stolen picture I wanted anymore. Can you boot them off of eBay? Thanks!"
Yeah right.

Last week someone swiped my photo from a closed auction. I replaced it with a close-up picture of my cross-eyed and scattered toothed old shitzu with his tounge sticking out... I wonder if anyone emailed and asked about it..

I label the heck out of my photos with my email address.
It would take a lot of work to remove it.

Next time, replace the photo with an obscene photo (or language), then complain to ebay and get him kicked out.

I can not conceive that someone would be so dumb as to not take a few brief seconds and save the image to their hard drive. The photo link stealers must all be very computer illiterate.

Well the seller emailed me...
First one "thanks mate. that was the first auction my 8 year old son had done, and he was in tears when he saw what you had done with the picture.
so thanks alot."
Second one
"please disregard the last message. i was stilll angry, and now i realise that my son was in the wrong.
sorry."
Cannot say that I feel bad.....after scanning photos for around 500+ figures one by one I dont feel bad at all.

First thing what is an 8 year old doing on eBay let alone selling. Isn't that against eBays rules? So now there are two things wrong with that auction 1. Stolen Pictures and 2. An 8 yr old listing auctions. I would email that father back and tell him how unhappy you are and that his 8 year old should be reprimanded doing what he did. Everything that boy did was against eBays agreement policy. I hope he doesn't use his fathers credit card because that is against the rules also. Oh my what is happening to eBay. No wonder sales are down. Do we have to be leary of auctions now because of kids?If it was me I would be really upset with images, what if he uses your image and his product isn't the same quality. Now a disservice has been done to the buyer of that product.

I don't see anything with an 8 year old selling on ebay if (and this is a VERY big if) there is an adult that helps them with process, and takes full responsibility. You have to start somewhere. I had my own mail order business when I was 12...

I don't steal pictures from auctions but I always like a chanllange took me about 15 seconds japerton to take your picture remove the e-mail address. Seems like a lot of effort to go through. You have on some of your pictures put the email address were I if I were buying as a buyer would look for information. I have seen a lot of sellers do this. However, it has saved my about 2,000 dollars of the last few years in things I didn't buy because I find it annoying to try to look past the plastered web addresses, e-mail addresses and copyrights (that in itself is a laugh it is photo not a Mona Lisa). Most that have them don't even have good pictures.
If I were selling the same things all the time like Vetting I would find a way to try to protect my pics a little. I sell a variety of things. My take it if they want the picture take it. If they are that lazy and want to steal go ahead it is on them not me of course as I said I sell a variety of things and most of the times after my auction is over I am done with the photo. I don't have time to worry about it life is short, we all die to quickly and I have more important things to do with my time. my take will piss a few off here but that is life.

I agree with juststuff4u. I also get angry at email address and web site names all over photos. It greatly mars the photos and reeks of parnoia of the seller. If the want to steal the photo, let 'em.
I wish there was a site that had decent photos of most of the common auction items were sellers could go and get them for free or maybe a penny or two each. It would be a big work saver.

I disagree with stealing images, using pictures from books, and any site that would put on common pictures. If this is what you want why not sit back and steal the description and then you just sit and collect the money. Wow! that's fair, right. Wrong.
The pictures in your auctions should be the actual picture of your item. Your pictures reflect the widget you are selling and your description tells the story of that picture. It should explain what condition, if any problems etc. A picture taken from a package or stolen is not a true picture of what you are selling. Why do you think honest sellers take their time to photo and write descriptions. For others to steal. No, so they can sell that widget. Using someone elses photo is deception and doesn't tell the true story of your widget.
This is my opinion and this is how I do my auctions. I will never beable to put many auctions on a week because I photo and write all my descriptions and that takes time.

You know that isn't a bad idea. I have a few websites. Some I just have to draw people to the websites I make money from. Something like above could work for that. I wonder if there is a list of Ebay most popular things that have sold over the years. . . ?
Wow! that's fair, right. Wrong. >>
Who said it was fair life never is but I am not going to waste my time over some stealing photos or even my text work. I have more important things to worry about or rather spend my time on. However I relize that many have to much time on their hands and have nothing better to do. That statement is true but I know it won't be popular here. Oh well that is life.

Oh Well...live and learn eh?
The upside is that it's such a crappy photo, eh?
LOL
I don't know about reeking of paranoia, (sniffs underarms), just adding that extra step of deterent (or is it deoderent?
I don't have a case of portabraces, so I am not too worried about the photo (if I did, I would take a better picture).
My idea of putting the name on the photo is so that people will know it's something I took the time to do. I may change my MO later, but now, WTH, I do it.
But...juststuff4u?...here is a little tip...
I can access your complete root directory by deleting my little portabrace photo.
And, philosophy aside...
This is a cute
or is it? (I hate UBB!)

I really don't care who steals my photos, I just learned on the board that putting your name on it helps deter folks from ripping off buyers. People who rip off buyers stink, mainly because they may not bid on my auctions!
Japerton
(hey, bid on the portabrace!)

I don't mind others using my pictures, unless it's an item I'm currently selling. The most extreme case, where another seller stole my picture and description, and listed the item next to mine, has happened to me. Sorry, folks, I'm not a charity. This is business.
Last time it happened, when my auction ended I replaced the pic with one of a girl getting sodomized with a giant dildo. Then I added some text in bright red letters about the picture being stolen. I contacted eBay and had them move the seller's auctions to the Adults Only section.

With an item like a book a general photo should suffice unless there are tears on the dust jacket or something special about the book. As to the auction description of a book for example, most sellers just type the blurbs from the dust covers. Borrowing their descriptions is just stealing what they've already stolen from the publisher.
The idea is to not spend one hour on an auction you're going to maybe make $5 profit on. A lonely housewife might have that kind of spare time and enjoy making prison wages but I'd rather make the auction in a few minutes on common items.

Good clean it out for me. You will save me the trouble of doing it. I haven't used the directy in MONTHS or longer nor do I have an plans to for anything important. You see I learned fast that storing things on AOL wasn't good because at the prime times the pics weren't showing. (Just a tip for anyone using their AOL space)
You know I forgot about that little dog picked them up at the dollar store and sold one after another. For a lot more then a buck. That was quite some time ago. Wish I could get more but it was nothing like the bulldogs. Sold about 12 of those at about 25.00-30.00 a piece.
Cease the day and then !@#$ them all.

The only time I have ever stolen a picture is when I was selling a doll that was still in its sealed shipping box. It was worth more unopened, and therefore I stole the picture off the store website.
I can't imagine someone paying $190 for a picture of a box.

Hey Japerton Cool Magazines you are selling maybe I will bid on them. Now wouldn 't that be fun maybe I could even come pick them up and save you the hassle of shipping them.
BTW don't forget to buy the new postage stamp for spay & neuter that just came out. I took notice in your auctions you have some links to cheap spaying.
