When does bidding pick up after the summer? My auctions are so slow right now, I have some nice things to list, but I want to wait until things pick up a bit before I list them, I know that with summer vacations it is always slower.

I find that in the summer you can have one or two dead weeks, followed by a couple of weeks of huge action. Overall the summer may be even a little better than average. Some of the bidders must be suffering sunstroke judging by the frenzied bidding that can go on.

I think we are in somewhat of a resission right now. September 11th will haunt all of us in more ways than one. The Stock market is scary, when that straightens out people will start shopping and spending. Just my opinion, hopefully I am wrong.

When does bidding pick up?
Usually right about the time that I decide to bid!

this is the worst i have seen in 7 years.
it is worse on amzn or yahoo.
it is coming to the point where it makes no difference how attractive the asking price is ,there is no bidders.
i am afraid the recession and layoff have taken a bigger toll on internet savvy players -those employed in telecommunications, computer and wall street industries.
you also see more white collar crimes, they are hitting the yahoo shops with fraudulent cc indentity, stolen cc and even checks.

It is any ones guess when it will pick up. sandraj is correct. Sept 11th has put a big damper on the online auction business. In all of my previous years in the business, I would have slow downs in the summer, but would still be selling. This summer has been dreadful. You can figure early November it should get real good for the Xmas shopping season. That is what happened last year after Sept 11. It lasted until Jan 15th, then it slowed. It was a last summers pace until May. Then it just died. Bin Laden did much more damage than I think he knew he would do. It will be a crap shoot, but good luck in your sales none the less.

My Ebay toy is broken. Only closed 21 out of 53 auctions this week. I sell primarily how-to books and they usually will get at least minimum bids anyway. I usually get a 75% sell through rate at least. I guess it's time to relist the other 32 auctions at a lower price and see what happens. This economy sucks. And don't even get me started about the stock market. Yuck!!

My belief is it depends on what you sell.
If you sell an item that many other eBayers sell then it can be tough. At one time I sold collectable Zippo lighters. That was a tough market. I also sold cigars when it was legal on eBay. That was also a tough market.
Then I started selling heavy cast iron products and sales are good all year long.
I now sell approximately 175 different items and only about half of what I sell is sold by others on eBay. My sales are always brisk.
If a person don't mind packing and shipping heavy items on a daily basis I think they can do well. It's all in finding the right niche.

well for me the last two years auction selling started picking up after the first week in august.
it builds slowly last year sales slowed down for tow days for me after 9/11 picked back up again and died during the holidays.
Bidding looks very good on ebay right now depends on what you sell.
Music records and CDs sales very slow eletornics Radio equipment CB, ham and frs new used and collectable very heavy bidding the catagory is near 85% to 90% bid on every day for weeks now.
I myself just decide to put my station back togeather and from the sounds of it there is a new CB boom on the rise out there in 87 when I gave up radio and got my computer there were little to no people left to talk too now there are a few thousand locally within 40 miles who have got back into it most say they put there station togeather in 1999 some 2000 and gave up the computers IRC chat and message boards as well there is a lot of very sour X ebay buyers and sellers I have talked too out there some tired of being ripped off and many sick of losing loads of money tring too sell and getting low bid or no bids at all very sour on the internet all togeather ...
over all in the discussion with these people if there is many other local area in this country with people just as sour on Ebay and the internet as I talked with here around up state new york in the last few weeks sellers could be in for a very hard time in the near future some even noted they removed there computer out of there house sold then some gave them away traded for there radio equipment.
many are saying they have cancelled there all there online account and connections to the internet to many service fees for to little in return , many a few dozzen or more even went back to rabbit ear for there tvs and dumped cable and Direct tv Dish and drop there cell phones for GRMS and CB radio in there cars GMRS is portable and little more bulky but they say work just as well no charge for air time and one licence for the whole family is $35 for the year.
DVDs DVD players video game and game CD and carts very good bidding .
computer related and autos doing very good.
I think most are right we are in a mini slow down recovery started just before spring but is still suffering a hang over so to speak.
factory I work in started slowing down about in late in june of this year again after a great first quarter and is still not looking good most weeks we are running less then 50%.

Don't feel too bad about slow sales - Wal-Mart just announced that even their sales are down.
