I am looking for your opinion why buyers don't post positive feedback after receiving their item. The last 3 items I sold did not get feedback and of course, it has happened before. So here are my guesses why the buyers did not post positive feedback: (1) the buyer FORGOT... (2) the buyer's computer crashed and is not able to access the eBay website... (3) the buyer received the item exactly as described and that wasn't good enough to post positive feedback... (4) the buyer did not appreciate being told by the seller to make payment so he/she refused to post feedback for the auction... any others?

I have a friend who just started buying this summer on Ebay. He buys multiple items and some he has purchased have cost him in the thousands. His feedback is growing, but he has left none for his sellers. When I asked him why he never leaves feedback for his sellers his reply was: (I send them their money what else do they need! Besides I don't have time to mess with that Crap!)

lots of reasons....i find nowadays most people won't leave feedback until the other party does.

when i sell an item i leave feedback once i receive money....when i buy an item i leave feedback once i receive it

I include a little note with each item I send out. There's a message that says "I hope you're pleased with this item"...and then I write the item number/description. I include my User ID and e-mail address as well. I've had success with this and most of my customers leave feedback. By the way...this idea did not originate with me...someone on this board said they did it and I thought it was a great idea and have used it since. It does seem to work!

LAST LOOK I HAVE 136 FEED BACKS TO GIVE AS A SELLER. THEY NEVER GAVE IT TO ME. I NEVER GIVE IT FIRST. LOW NUMBERS, I FIGURE THEY DON'T KNOW HOW AND HIGH NUMBERS I FIGURE THEY ARE INTO THE SELLER MUST GIVE IT FIRST GAME. SOME COULD AS THE GUY SAYS, CARE LESS. THEY BOUGHT WHAT THEY WANTED AND REALLY DON'T CARE ABOUT THE FEED BACK THING.

IF EVERYONE WOULD HAVE GIVEN ME FEED BACK I AM POSITIVE I HAVE SOLD A MINIMUM OF 4000 THINGS. 918 FEEDS. WITH 918 I REALLY DON'T CARE IF I EVER GET ANYMORE. IT SPEAKS OF MY CREDIBILTY TO SELL JUST ABOUT ANY THING FOR ANY PRICE. IF I SOLD A HOUSE FOR $100.000.00 I BELIEVE THE BUYER WOULD SEND ME THE PAYMENT WITHOUT THINKING TWICE. THE LAST NEGATIVE I GOT, I ACTUALLY, AFTER I COOLED DOWN,,,,,,WROTE AND THANKED HIM.

FEEDBACK,,,,,,,FROM BUYER,,,NEGATIVES ME ,,,,,I PAYED, SAID HE SENT, YEAH RIGHT! BUYERS BEWARE!!

MY RETURN NEGATIVE,,,,,HE "PAYED" I SENT,,,UPS TRACKING # 123456789, STATUS DELIVERD!

HE "WAS" A SELLER AND BUYER, 36 FEEDS, 5 NEGS. HE HAS NEVER DONE ANYTHING SINCE THEN. 3 MONTHS AGO.

THAT UPS NUMBER CAN BE TRACKED FOREVER.

I WROTE HIM BACK SAYING,,,,,THANKS YOU MORON, YOU JUST INCREASED MY CREDIBILITY.

Hey Jackswebb. Not to pick on you and this is off topic for this post, by why do you always type all of your posts in CAPS?

Every time I read one of your posts, I feel like you are shouting at me.

thanks for your opinions. I always post positive feedback for the buyer upon receiving payment. But I guess receiving payment is good enough and positive feedback is an extra bonus!

I think that buyers who never leave fdbck are either too lazy or don't understand the system. I leave a posoitive feed back as soon as I receive the payment. I would rather have no fdbck than 1 neg.I am a small time seller, but I now have over 300 positives, so like Jack I feel I have credibility.

IF YOU AS THE SELLER POST FIRST,,,,,,,JUST BECAUSE YOU GOT PAID BE PREPARED FOR A RUDE AWAKENING WHEN THEY GET THE WIDGET AND DON'T LIKE IT. YOU ARE SCREWED. THE BUYER IS THE ULTIMATE ONE TO BE SATISFIED. (OR NOT).

The sad thing is that it's so easy to give feedback now. Just go to ebay, call up a list of people you have not left feedback for, and with a few clicks you are done.

As I mentioned previously here at EO, I have a couple of eBay ids. One has low feedback while the other has a significant amount of feedback after over four years of selling.

The last seller I bought from (with the id with low feedback) had an attitude that I think was because of my low feedback. The seller never got around to leaving a feedback for me so I didn't leave one neither. Even if he had, I wouldn't have.

Was I satisfied with the trasaction? Well, the product was what I expected and I promptly received it, but the customer service was unsatisfactory.

Does the seller know my opinion? Nope. I just won't bought from them again.

That is so often the case in the brick and mortar businesses (restaurants, dept stores etc etc), the customers just leave and not return. They don't bother to let the workers, managers or the owners know why.

Oftentimes, when a customer does give a constructive suggestion, they receive defensiveness. So why bother?

"Do you know how hard it is to sell on eBay?"

"Do you know what it's like to handle rude and abusive buyers?"

and on and on and on.

As a seller, I don't post feedbacks when I receive payment. I am secure enough with my feedback that I wait until the buyer leaves one for me. Sometimes, I do leave one after a reasonable amount of time, or just before the 90 day limit is up.

In the past I used to post upon receipt of payment, not anymore. I wait now.

blueyes,

Same thing with me. I noticed an increase in feedbacks after putting notes in the packages. I think it jogs their memory. When I receive a note in a package, I lay it next to my monitor as a reminder to leave feedback. If something is wrong, I e-mail the seller instead of jumping on the neg button.

THERE IS NEVER ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE JUNK I SELL. IT'S THE BUYER WHO HAS SOMETHING WRONG. THEY ALREADY SENT ME A NOTE. HAHAHAHAH.

ok...I'll include a note with the item! I haven't done that before. Something like PAVLOV'S DOG: see a note, post feedback for seller.

I didn't leave feedback for the last seller I bought from. I won two of his auctions, but had to email him a couple of times before he gave me the correct total with combined shipping. I paid immediately thereafter via PayPal. I didn't hear back for a couple of weeks. I emailed and asked if the items had been mailed. He ignored me. I emailed two more times before he wrote and said it had been mailed the prior week. When the package finally arrived, the postmark clearly showed it was mailed AFTER his last email to me.

He did not leave feedback for me. And, in checking his feedback after the package arrived, he had a few recent negs and neutrals about slow shipping, poor communication and lying about shipping dates. None of that was there when I bid, or I would have passed on his items.

I thought about it and decided not to leave any feedback at all. I received the items as described and at a really good price, with fair shipping charges. The transaction was not positive overall, however, because of the lack of customer service. The eBay "community" had already been alerted to these facts, so I didn't feel any need to pile it on. It didn't seem worth the negative energy it would have generated.

I BUY way to much on auctions, I pay immediately, email when I get item and leave feedback. After the auction closes, I even offer to reimburse postage if it happends not to be enough (and done it several times). I only get feedback about 2/3 of the time. What am I doing wrong? I would never remind a buyer because that would be considered "whining". I do notice most sellers who omit feedback have 300 or under themselves. I know some sellers say they wait and do it in bulk but than again many have skipped me. I just figure I get what I want in auctions. I was taught to say please and thank you and feedback does that best. If you don't want to thank me, that is your sorry choice, maybe your next customer is my opposite.

I have a very cheerful doctor who loves verbal feedback. After one of my exams, he said, "Now say, 'thank you, doctor,'." I choked on it because he is highly paid, and I thought that was thanks enough.

That may be how some buyers feel as well.

It does bother me not to see my feedback leap after 20 ITEMS (widgets, whatnots, thingamajigs, googaws) are shipped out, but I agree that it is best left alone. If they accept positive FB's and give none, they are most likely forgetful, selfish, or think payment is praise enough. Let it be or don't leave FB for them. If I have to drag a FB out of someone, I don't want it.

Like I've said in a previous post, I'm just concerned that in 90 days they will slam me with a neg out of the blue. A FB would be a pleasant way to finalize the deal.
