Hi all! I was browsing ebay for a special gameboy game for my son. I keep coming across this one seller who seems to have an unlimited supply of these games. His/Her prices are reasonable BUT the feedback thing is worrying me. this is a power seller with a total of 18500+ positives fb, 125 nuetrals and 61 negatives. 1 nuetral in the last 7 days and 8 nuetrals and 4 negs in the last month.

Me thinks this seller is selling too much and can't keep up with his/her auctions. Is this just me? Should I worry like this?

I'd probably purchase from a seller with 100 feedback even if he had one neutral and one neg. Percentage wise that'd be a worse feedback record than the PowerSeller you describe.

(125+61)/18500 = 1%

That's no worse that someone with a hundred feedbacks and ONE neg. Pretty good in my opinion. I would have no problem buying from this person.

Just think, eBays largest seller has over 2200 Non-positive ratings. It's all in the percentages!

I think the concern is with the amount of negs in the last month. What % are they of the goods he has received in the last month. It could be he is haveing a slump. On the other hand if he has sold a lot & the neg represent a tiny %, do for it. Use your gut instinct. Also check out what was said in the feedback. Do they sound like people who just like to complain or do you see a pattern?

It looks like he is over his head and can't manage his auctions. There was one for damaged merchandise and the others were for no merchandise being received. "he says he has no record of my order and it has not been sent", "will not return my calls or email, wrong item shipped" >>> etc

I think i'd rather have my 150 positives with NO negatives than his feedbacks. I don't think I want to deal with him

I think I would look at the persons leaving the feedback also. Another thing is how many positives in the last month to go with the negatives. You probably would not even think twice about dealing with a seller that has 300 positives , 2 nuetrals , and 1 Negative (same % as 18,500 pos. 125 Nuetrals and 61 negs.)even if the Negative was yesterday. The big numbers make it sound worse than it is. I would be very happy to buy from this seller.

Yea, but look at what [email protected] is selling. I'm sure she has many jumpy,
impatient, young and immature buyers that are quick on the gun in leaving a negative.

It goes with the territory. I learned to live with it long ago. People can read between
the lines.

I wonder what feedback would look like for WalMart...Sears...Barnes & Noble...Home Depot...Borders if they had to use an eBay public feedback system.

Sometimes eBay buyers forget that customer dissatisfaction can exceed 1-2% out in the real world, yet few people think twice about buying from the big established retailers.

Well, Sears does sell on eBay. I don't think the buyer that was worried about the PowerSeller would want to risk Sears either. they are running much higher in the feedback positive/negative/neutral percentage game arena. Sears feedback may look damning to someone else, yet I'm still planning on buying a Sears garage door opener and trash compactor. I like their products and service.

One thing that has gotten Marie the negs, is the fact that she sells cds that are clearly marked as samples-not for resale. This is also a violation with regards to items allowed on ebay. An aquaintance who owns a record shop, asked one of the eBay reps at the Anaheim event, why his auction was pulled, and yet he sees Marie selling these items over and over again. The rep said they would look into it. Yeah right. Just another example of selective policing.

celebrity: I'll have to take your word for it that that's why Marie gets as many negs as she does. When someone has a massive amount of feedback, it's really hard to chase down each complaint to see what it's about...especially now that eBay has restricted number of comments per page to 200.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the Feedback Forum is sorely in need of revamping. One of the changes that should be made is an option to see all of the negs at once (or all the neutrals).

Good examples of how feedback can look too high at first glance. The example that robersmithson gave on ONECENTCDS is a great one.

The guy has received almost 350 positives TODAY alone! (Of course many are multiple winners but geez...I can see how they can make a misktake or two doing that huge volume)

What I would look at is what the negs say and how they are responded to.

If they say, had a problem and never got a reply, do not buy. If the response says, I always respond to e-mails, do not buy. I would ask a question of the buyer before bidding. If you don't get an answer within 24 hours, do not buy. If you do bid and win, never send any money unless they give you their street address even if you are paying with PayPal. If there is a problem after you sent payment, you will need their street address.

If they are getting negs because they do not e-mail to let when payment is received and when the item is shipped, do not bid.
If they are mostly retailitory negs, then I wouldn't have a problem with doing business with this seller.
