Hello,
I got two small elephants as a gift from Czech rebulic, one looks like auction
Item # 2045649427 and I would like to ask if some one can suggest how to take pictures of it?

second one is standing on a mirror stand,
and his body looks like it's knitted from crystal (hollow inside)
so I was wondering how to show that...
he has gold (color or plating)
on his ears and tale.
Legs, ears, trunk and tail are solid, rest is that knitted version
9sorry I know nothing about crystal)

only thing I know about them :
hand made, czech republic,
ZDH hand made bohemian cystal.

any advise will be greately appriciated!
thank you
regards
laiki

p.s: and if someone knows Murano glass, what does VINCIPROVA means?
thank you

You want to know how to take pictures of crystal figurines? I will share my complete store of knowledge with you:

First, I pray....a lot!

If you want to know how to take good pictures of crystal figurines, that's a different story, and someone else will be along in a little while to help you.

(Sorry if I disappointed you, but this will bump you back up to the top where you may get some real help.)

PS - I would guess (and it's only a guess) that the words are Italian, maybe translates to 'Province of Vinci', or something like that. Leonardo was from Vinci, you know.

Vincaprova is apparently a family name. This paragraph was translated from an Italian language page by Google ( Yahoo is one of the worst search engines ).

The Vinciprova family, which Vinciprova Lion belonged the hero garibaldino, of divenne owner in the second goal of XIX the century. II palace from 1986, for donation of university professor Lydia Vinciprova, last descendant of the family, has become property of the Common one of Pollica. Today Center of Information is center of the Museum - on the problems of the sea managed from the Marenostrum Association.

Get a piece of colored paper cut a template around the figurine leaving about a 1/2".
Place on a window sill with template resting on the glass around the figurine. The outside light backlights the figurine and the template blocks the excess light. That way you get great pics with no reflections.

I'd suggest a very dark (black) background in a dark room. Use spot lighting to create an inner glow. Don't light the background, just a spotlight on the item.

You won't get a lot of detail, but you don't get much detail just looking at a glass object anyway unless you are very, very close.

Small flaws won't be visible, so be sure to mention them specifically in your item description.

As a background, I've had some luck using a cardboard box with the front and top cut out...lined with black velvet. Dark blue might work well also.

Try this with the lighting that twinsoft suggested and I think that you will be happy with the results!

I tried black backround,
with flash - totaly whites out all the details, without flash , looks quite bad.

then I tried white backround, cant find the item in the pictures

i will try the cardboard idea and read the old threads.

thank you all.
