this fellow? I posted on this board about 7 weeks ago on a bidder who CLAIMED all he did was look at one of my buy it now auction, and somehow, by glitch of ebays system he wound up doing a buy it now, and how all of you had fun making fun of his bogus claim. I know all of you guys wanted me to file NPB then FVf on the fellow, but I just told him to pay for the FVF plus listing fee, so I woun't file one.And he did, I figure, o problem.

Well today, i get my FIRST neutral rating, it was from him, all he put was "????"!

Well I havent rated him yet, should I give him a neg or neutral? Also what should be my response to his "???".

Ironking, we need to think about this a bit.

This guy is too dumb to know he bid (and a BIN no less), but he knows how to use feedback to his advantage. Hmmmmm.....

Hmmmm...I don't think I'd post a neg since he did pay the fees but I would consider a neutral since he did the same to you.

Okay....having thought about it, I just might post a neg.

Why? Because he could have left the fb question alone, or have left a positive like "Generous & gracious seller", which it seems you were.

He probably knows he deserves a negative, so he is trying to out-maneuver you here by leaving a neutral in hopes you will do no worse.

Is anyone else like I am?....the older I get, the more I despise an obvious and not-too-bright liar. I just don't have any tolerance for them any more!

If a bidder wrote me and told me s/he has a problem (addiction) and can't resist bidding, knowing s/he can't pay for the item, I would treat him/her much more kindly than I would the one who pretends to be her own sister, and explains that the bidder (who is still bidding) has been in an automobile accident and will be in the hospital indefinitely, and therefore cannot complete the transaction (also a buy-it-now).

He has probably played this game or a similar one before - and if he gets by with it, he most surely will play it again - on someone, sometime.

Neg him.

Personally I would reply to the 'comment' in your feedback something like:

Buyer claims error in bidding but paid my fees.

I would post the same as a neutral in their feedback.

No reason for a neg that I can see.

Leave a negative saying, "oops left this by mistake."

Everyone is entitled to my opinion.

H@#@#!! NEG him!! There is no way you can do a BIN by accident. There are 2 X's that you can change your mind before the final click of the mouse. He is a dumb liar & desrves a NEG.

Neg the jerk....

"SELLERS BEWARE, said did BIN by mistake refused to pay"

Or something like that, this way you present the facts no emotions.

Here's the deal - If I get a neutral because of something I did (and deserve it) I will not give a negative back. However, if I get a neutral and don't deserve it (i.e. a postal problem, or person never tells me about a problem) then I give a negative without giving it a second thought.

Leave a neg with a comment something like "This is suppose to be a neutral and I hope an ebay glitch will not make it a negaitive by mistake".

The same thing happened to me. My buyer's payment arrived several WEEKS after the NPB and FVF stuff had been completed. I sent it back with a note that it was too late as the item had already been relisted and sold. On Day 89 she leaves a "???" neutral in my feedback.

I had not negged her previously (gave her the benefit of the doubt that her payment was "lost" instead of just late), and I had been very polite in my emails to her (though she had been rude and demanding in hers). However, I felt her last-minute feedback mini-bomb was uncalled for. I left a factual neg for her in return, as that was the last straw in a bad transaction for me.

Edited to add: I agree with ahc3. If something is MY bad, then I'll take my lumps and try to make it right with the customer. However, UNDESERVED neutrals or negatives will result in negatives right back. I'm not neutral when someone messes with my business reputation.

Leave a neutral with a comment about the confusion. Leaving a neg will appear like you are a retaliator and will steer many potential bidders away from you.

quickdraw29 has the proper solution. It will make them realize how transparent their line of BS was, and possibly make them think twice about pulling it again. Your bidder is a liar and scam artist with no talent. He deserves no less than a neg.

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

I'd just walk away. I wouldn't leave any feedback. You've absolutely nothing to gain from a business point of view by leaving him a neg or neutral, and you risk having a problem by further action.

I love the book the "The Godfather." The stressing of taking care of business over the revenge is a smart tactic. Read it and learn from it.
