Any PayPal users get this message in the past week? Problem is the link in the message doesn't work. IS IT LEGIT? I got a canned answer from PayPal that did not answer my question.

Dear PayPal Member,

Please log into your PayPal account using the following link to confirm you are still an active PayPal user asap. Please do not edit any details.

This is our new yearly checkup process to screen any inactive accounts.

Thankyou for your co-operation.

Do NOT GO THROUGH ANY EMAIL LINKS LIKE THIS TO PAYPAL!!! There have been too many scam emails.

Go to Paypal through your regular link and just check on your account. That would do the same thing.

There are always warnings on the Paypal site about scams like this one. They want to get your id and password so they can wipe out your account.

I tried the link, but the "page cannot be displayed" message came up. NOte the https in the address. I thought this was how you could tell if it was from PayPal or not.

The message says it's from [email protected]. Like you, I doubt it it's legit, but I can't get a straight answer from PayPal help, and there doesn't seem to be a phone number to call PayPal.

Was it linked or just text? It could have been that they displayed the link as what you wrote, but actually hyperlinked it to another address. Look at the headers on the email and see where it is truly from.

My guess is that this was a scam email and that the isp that it linked with had already killed the page.

The con artists are getting quite good at this, and I have to remember to use my own link to paypal, not anything in any email.
