Advice - NOUN: Opinion about what could or should be done about a situation or problem.

Advise - VERB: To offer advice to; counsel.

I see these two words used incorrectly on here all the time and it drives me nuts! Usually the word 'advise' is used in place of the correct word 'advice'. I'm no genius and I'm sure I make spelling and grammatical errors on here all the time but this one was just getting under my skin and I had to post a message about it.

You must have been or are a English teacher. I used to drive my Ex wife (an english teacher) crazy when I mispronounced a couple of words.
Example: Siren (like the noise made by an ambulance) I would pronounce it "sireene)

OR would refer to English peas as Little Green Peas

Not that I ever did it on purpose....

LOL...sireene...sounds like the way the Beverly Hill Billys might say it...as in "Lets take a dip in the seement(cement) pond."

No I'm not, nor have I ever been an English teacher. Just easily annoyed I guess.

Don't worry about the Hill Billy comment. I didn't get a nick name like Bear by being thin skinned.

Actually I thought of it more as a red neck way of speach. (and no I'm not a red neck)

zoomin: it IS impotent! ... i used to be a proofreader/editor for a big crossword and word puzzle company .... spelling is such an important factor in ebay selling ... but i just wanted to add that my favorite word i ever ran across is floccinauccinihilipilification ... this is something that happens often on ebay ...

it means: The act or action of estimating or evalutating something as being worthless or useless.

re tooltime: floccinauccinihilipilification

Q. What does "floccinaucinihilipilification" mean?
A. It means "the estimation of something as worthless."
But it is usually used only as an example of a very long word, sometimes held to be the longest. The Oxford English Dictionary labels it "humorous" and gives the following citations for it:

I loved him for nothing so much as his floccinaucinihilipilification of money.
--William Shenstone, Letters

They must be taken with an air of contempt, a floccinaucinihilipilification of all that can gratify the outward man.
--Sir Walter Scott, Journal
