I am new to AW. I have spent the past few days catching up on the postings. I have discovered that some of you are quite helpful and some are quite "FULL OF YOURSELVES".
I would like to learn a little more about you before I jump into some of the great debates.
Who are you? (PROFESSIONAL or AMATEUR)
What do you sell?

I guess i'm a "professional" seller at ebay .... i have just been dabbling around this great group of personalities for a few months now, but had been reading a lot of what they have to say for a couple years ... ... i learn a lot here and i like what i learn .... i also see a lot of different people that post here who have opposing viewpoints ... but i guess that's ok, even though i'm wishy-washy and can therefore see and "stick up for" both sides. LOL ... my husband and I have been selling antiques for a few years, full time, on both eBay and a local antique mall ... rarely a dull moment.

I was a seller on ebay (professional) for a little over 2 years. I have sold from my own websites for over 5 years. A few months back it became apparent that I was wasting time and money by selling on ebay. I now spend my former ebay fees promoting and constantly improving my websites. My average net profit per sale is up roughly 30% since leaving ebay, and my total monthly sales have increased by almost 60%. Ebay is a great way for a part-timer to sell or for someone to get rid of grandma's old jewelry, but a professional would likely do much better selling from his/her own website. Of course I'm sure it depends in part on what you sell, but my product line is wide and varied, and sales from all of my websites have improved by leaps and bounds since I gave up on ebay. I guess it's all a matter of personal choice and I'm sure there are plenty of folks who will disagree with me and that's fine. This is America after all. We're all free to do what works best for us as individuals. Welcome to Auctionwatch and good luck on ebay!

I won't rehash the other thread, but I think you're CRAZY for leaving that much money in your PayPal account (please, no offense meant, tongue firmly in cheek).
Sure, most other sellers haven't had a problem with PayPal (yet), but for those who have, myself included, the thought of leaving anything more than a little seed money in there would be the equivalent of financial Russian Roulette. When and if it becomes your turn to have a problem (seemingly at random), you're in for a heap of heartburn unless of course you're so wealthy that losing $5000 or having it tied up for a while won't bother you.

dlhunlimited, I'm strictly a semi-amateur, by no means would I appoint myself as a pro.
Glad to hear that you're doing fairly well on your website.

I used to sell on E-Bay for a living until the powersellers decided to give everything away. I now do it for a hobby, when I feel like it,which isn't very often. I work a full time at a factory and couldn't be happier! The benefits are great!Money is great too, and nobody to destroy my paycheck.

I'm an amateur, but apparently I'm also a powerseller who gives everything away . Just kidding, but I do think I need to get rid of that logo because it gets such a bad wrap. I'm a home visiting nurse in "real life" and do ebay as a hobby and extra pocket money. I am also wishy-washy.

Hobby here. Enjoy my buyers very much. I have a lot in common with some of them as they are jewelry collectors and I am trying to get rid of mine. Great bunch, very informative, post something you don't know and I bet you will have an answer by night time. It's not all seriousness in here. Some are hostile but then at times we all are. I don't mind debating them as it is only debating to me. I don't hold grudges. I don't mind powersellers as I purchased someting yesterday from one, paid by paypal and they have already left their feedback.
This is a place for some great graphics and then there is Jackswebb with some interesting sidelines to add. If you want anything done address Jack as he has the power. And the beat goes on.

I guess that I am a semipro at this. I have been buying china & selling it to replacement companies for the past 10 yrs. I have been selling some of it on eBay when it something that there is a demand for. I have done very well doing this for over 4 yrs. & am increasing my auctions from about 10 a week to somewhere around 50. I am looking for more collectible things at estate sales & auctions. Most of my china has come from estate sales & word of mouth from antique dealers who aren't interested in having big sets of china in their shop.

Aw...just jump into the debates!
I have a bidder ID and a seller ID.
I am up to 33 feedback as a seller and aspire to doing this on a more regular basis. Right now I am cleaning out the closet to support the horse.
No joke.
Also have too much fun just watching people bid on things I was going to donate. Even if it's a few bucks.
Still trying to figure out what I want to sell, how to sell it and all the usual bag of goodies.
I used to go to esate sales, in the early 90's, and I still have some things I am never going to sell...unless the horse gives me the look.
Japerton
Who loves her manual Minolta collection and her sweet Hassalblad...all bought on ebay!
(as you may dicern...I have some catching up to do as a seller....)

I am a semipro. I have been selling and buying on eBay for about 3 years. My feedback is 700+ with only 3 negs (I'm sure this won't last!!). The individuals on this board are terrific. Yes, occassionally there are differing opinions, but that's life. Most everyone in here has been quite helpful to me as I try to be to everyone else. You won't find a better group of people to deal with. Welcome to eBay and AW. Enjoy the ride!!!

Hi dlhunlimited,
I'm so partime & for fun I don't even count as a seller. BUT when I started to sell I came here after about a month to ask a question. Got the question answered right away. Been lurking around here ever since.
If I know anything I learned it here. Most of it on one thread several months ago. I learned to post graphics ( and to find them by searching because yellowstone and trai just kept saying "search" when I repeatedly asked "where" so I learned to search! Thanks yellowstone & trai!!! Now if I could only learn to do what slabholder and kiara are doing. It appears they are creating their own custom graphics. Either that or they have gone where no one else on here has!! lol!!!
Of course I have learned a lot of stuff I'm storing in my half empty (lots of storage space left) brain to use when the occaision arrises. I'm sure I will remember it when the time comes!! lol!
You won't see many posts from me BUT I am ALWAYS here just HOVERING!!! Welcome to EO!!
Oh I almost forgot - I am neither helpful nor full of myself. I WOULD be if I knew how though!! LOL!!

Good Morning Everyone:
Thanks for all the replies. It is great to see such a diversified group get together and speak what is on their mind.
CLASSICROCK000 - I am glad you found my topic interesting. I find it interesting that you assumed I would need to approve of you before I joined. Especially since you dont know who, who, whooooooo the f... I am.
It is soooooooo exciting to know that this room has a guru, a head honcho, a big boss. I am sure in your mind you are THE MAN.
Since, THE MAN has asked, I will tell.
I do not consider myself a professional or an amateur. For me, this is a hobby with a specific goal in mind. Hopefully with a some luck, I'll Get By With A Little Help From My Friends. (lol)
The purpose of my post was to open the closet door and see what came out. It was not intended in any means to pass judgement on anyone.
So with that said, I will add a new post. Maybe it will be fun, maybe not, time will tell.
OH YEAH --- CLASSIC -- get your drawers out of a wad. I was just messing with you. Man, you got to approve of anyone who has 50,000 in their Paypal account and makes millions bootlegging sex toys. I bet you are one of those shippers who charges a handling fee and turns those USPS boxes inside out.
Gotta love it.

dlhunlimited - It's relevant.
look at all the baby pies. Wonder why cows**t is called pies and hogs**t and chickens**t is called what it is? Of course when any of it hits the fan it's pretty much the same. Although IMO the hog and chicken variety smells worse then the cowPIES.
Great pics kiara - like I said you are good.
I guess she didn't want to appear today!
