But you don't have to agree with me
I don't ship international, used to... but it was my choice (the buyers asking to mark gift, b*tch about the high shipping etc etc.
Well I had a 15 vol set of videos.
A guy writes, and asks if he can bid, he's in Finland... he said he would pay EXTRA for whatever, because he's been looking for this exact set.
after thinking about it, I told him, sure, but also told him shipping was going to be around $30. from the USPS website, I weighed these, packed 8 lbs. and THAT WAS the cheapest.
I had them divided in volumes 1-3 in an auction, 4-6 in the next and so on, 5 auctions.
Brother, they all had bids, he must have had a sniper program... bid and won ALL 15. ok
He writes right away:
Hi,
I,m the winner of your eBay auction America's xxxxxx xxxxx Tests Vols. 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12 and 13-15. Please tell me the total shipping costs. I prefer cheapest possible AIR MAIL.
Could you also tell me your PayPal email address. NOTE: THIS IS IMPORTANT; when you are ready to ship these items, remember to put gift option and/or zero (or as an example of $10) value on the green form. This is to avoid any sort of duty charges.
Yeah!
I never marked GIFT before, when I did do international...
Ok how much trouble will I get into if I do?I don't want to... but this is my fault, I guess I should have said, besides telling him it would be $30 shipping, I should have said I DO NOT mark Gift to other countries..

Thanks NearTheSea, I thought I was the only idoit. Now I have company.
I sell internationally and when they tell me to check gift I say okay then I do merchandise. Never had a bad feedback from anyone. What happens if you put used merchandise eBay item then put the fee he paid. They can't charge retail can they don't they have to charge according to your EOA notice. BTW I always include ebays EOA form with all international sales.

Well I guess I'm on a rant today (see my reply to the thread entitled $60) but why do you even have a question about this? Is it a gift? NO. Does it have a $0 dollar value? NO. There's your answer. See how easy that was?

I hate it when they do that to me. I've only had a few request that. I'd reply that if you certify it as a gift you would be committing mail fraud and you are simply not able to do that.
Tell him you will ship it as "merchandise" and if he has any problem to let you know and you will cancel the sales. I'd much rather cancel a sale and not exchange feedback than do business with an unhappy buyer. You know he wants it and I would expect he'll complete the deal and post positive. After all, you're an honest seller who gave him options including an "out". And in the unlikely event he negs you, be sure to save copies of all emails.
You can see if he sniped it by looking at the time an amounts of the bids he placed.

Yeah, definitly sniped, all within about 10 seconds of end.
rocketguy, yeah, see my title, I'm an idiot, guess thats why I asked
ANYWAY, when I first listed these, this guy writes me, the Finland guy... these videos.... well, I was going to ask here, but its way too open, and it would probably be another idiotic question but it got me thinking, looking at what he did and does bid on....

I use the following statement in my terms and conditions: International bidders note: I will not falsify customs documents. I sell to many international buyers, and they rarely ask me to falsify custons documents.

Question: just how much 'duty fees' or taxes on the average does one pay when they receive items from other countries (U.S.)
Now this guy paid me $200. so his total bid was $170 the other shipping.
I wonder how much they would ding him for on $170?
AND when he paid he paid FIVE different times for each auction with PayPal, adding the $30 shipping on the first one accccck.
Then emailed me, and told me HOW TO PACK THESE, AND 'please don't forget how to fill out that green slip like I told you...'
I was thinking, THREE different P.O.'s in my area KNOW me... I wonder if they'll believe it was really a 'gift' if I do mark it as such, since they know what I do.
