the ones with a life are outside capturing the last few warm wonderful rays of summer/fall...those of us with no life are on our computers wondering where they are!!!

Maybe today that's true but what about the other 6 days of the week?
Sept was the worst month that I have had in 2 years?
I'm starting to think I will have to go get a real job??? Like this isn't one.
I think all the Fixed Price ebay stuff is beginning to hurt the auction process???
Does anyone agree???

If you have direct competition that is using fixed pricing and you're not, then yes it is probably hurting your business.

I suppose there is a scarce minority of buyers that are thrilled waiting 3,5,7 or 10 days to see if their purchase was successful.

The gild is off the lilly for the auction format. It has become an impediment to sales rather than that new and exciting internet application.

If I was smart I would be outside also. Probably one of the last until the snow falls. I had a good week, infact a good September but I guess I put on what everyone wanted.

I think they're hiding out in the nooks and crannies today .... they're coming out with some last minute bids ... a beautiful autumn day here in ohio, with plenty of schnitzel and such at the oktoberfests around here.

The bidders are all doing the same thing I did for the last two days, watching football and NASCAR races.

I live 12 miles from the Talladega 500 NASCAR track and I can hear the roar of the engines from my home on race day.

This is VERY strange! My auctions are closing and I only have 2 bids out of the 20+ that ended this weekend. Usually I would have atleast 8 closed. Same stuff I always sell, no difference is prices ( I even lowered some) Shipping is the same. HUMMMMM. Me thinks the ecconomy is hitting us too.

I have heard that my perpetual garage sale friends (they have atleast 2-3 of 'em over the summer) say that their attendance is down. A little store of collectibles and sports cards that I know of, is also having a hard time. They NEVER have a hard time selling things.

Getting scary! One of my other friends that also sells on ebay said that they heard on the news that ebay's sales are going to be lower. Does anyone know anything else about it? Anyone watching the news ?

Watching auctions this past week is like watching your bobber when you are ice fishing. "Hey!! I just had a nibble" then nothing. I am used to auctions going up $10-$20 at a time, not 50 cents here and 50 cents there. The closer we get to Christmas the better sales will be.....I hope.

The gild is off the lilly for the auction format.

Really? Got any data to back that up?

I might agree that the novelty is gone from the standard eBay auction.

But the standard eBay auction is painful to look at.

I picked three auctions at random:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MfcISAPICommand=ViewItem&item=963000000

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MfcISAPICommand=ViewItem&item=966000000

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MfcISAPICommand=ViewItem&item=967000000

My method for selecting them should be obvious. But look at these three random auctions; they all have some things in common:

1) Lousy photographs (and the selection of IPIX to display the photo in all three examples).

2) Payment methods prominently displayed, even accorded more page space than a picture of the item. This is bizarre. Do you think Lands' End or Coldwater Creek would sell a lot of clothes if they plastered credit card logos all over every page of their catalogues?

3) The descriptions are crap. One of them is only seven words long. The best one, for the DKNY sweater, doesn't even mention the dimensions of the item, only that it is a Medium. How much will shipping be? Can I return it if I don't like it? The text says olive green but the picture looks gray.

I wonder if small-time clothing sellers will be driven out of business by Gotham City Online's new Universal Returns Policy for online purchases. GCO will accept your return (for merchandise credit) on a new clothing purchase from ANY eBay seller, not just GCO.

GCO seems to be moving aggressively to dominate the new-clothing business on eBay even more than it does already.

Gosh I am afraid I have the bidders today, why I don't know, nothing that great for sell just some stuff I thought, well what the heck I try my small items and see what happens, well shucks there in bidding wars and the price they want it pay for these things is out of control, so I check feedback and only worry about 1 high bidder not paying, I think my customers have been drinking too much, but hey thanks it was a lousy summer. One item they could buy at the store for under 10.00 it's over 52.00 now, cost me 2.00? Okay sorry to those of you that aren't getting bites today, can't tell ya what I did- LUCK? Is it a full moon?

I had a decent September, but having the best month in probably two years here in October. Must be the horseshoe in my back pocket I guess.

Although now that I think about it, my Yahoo sales are way too, so that has to get factored in.

I am sorry everyone is having such a slow time, but honestly, glad to see it isn't just us. If we didn't sell a great deal in a specialty item outside of eBay, we might be hurting......it seems like the same dead time of last year after 9/11.....but even after 9/11, it picked back up for us and we were busy through Aug of this year, so guess I shouldn't complain, just glad to see it is rather an across the board slow down.....and we are fixed price sellers.

I don't think the war talk is helping, but probably the beginning of foot ball season, school start expenses and still a bit early for xmas.

It will turn around, it always does, just keep on keeping on, we have for the last 6 years.

We aren't moving much but very low end items, and will keep posting, but only low end items till we see an up turn.
