.... never ceases to amaze me .... such a large [proportionately] number of bidders [on our auctions anyway] this year are 0-to-10 feedback ... I'm amazed how many 'brand new' "shoppers" come to ebay each year ... would have thought that by the millennium passing, 'newbies' would decrease in number, rather than increase .... anyone else have a thought or a reasoning on this?

Every day more and more users get wired to the net.
Believe it or not, there are areas of the US that are just getting internet service piped in for the first time.
They've heard about ebay, so they have to check it out. If they are in remote locations, it's easier for them to bid than to drive to the store for a gift.
I, myself, live an hour from the nearest mall and do much of my shopping online.
When I was 8 months pregnant with my third kidlet at Christmas time, all my holiday shopping was done online and quite a bit of it was done via ebay.

There was a study done that shows it takes three years for most new internet users to get comfortable and secure before shopping on the net, and that makes this year that would bring a flood of new online shoppers.

Seems to me that most of my half.com buyers this year have less than 3 feedback, many 0 and 1's - This is a good sign as far as I am concerned.
