I have a buyer that has filed a claim with Square Trade. If I remember correctly from this board, most sellers to not respond to Square Trade because they have no authority to do anything for either the buyer or the seller. Is this correct? I had a package supposedly damaged in transit. The buyer claims that her post office will not allow her to file the claim despite the fact that the Form 1000 and the Publication 122 both say that either the buyer or the seller may file. I don't want to trust the only proof I have of insurance to the same postal system that, according to this bidder, damages packages all the time. Thanks for any info.

I recently had a "buyer" who didn't pay. I filed a very simple negative fb "Non paying bidder". The "buyer" whined (and probably paid) to Square Trade to get the neg removed. I composed a response to the SQ email, but in order to respond, you have to agree to their terms!
Needless to say, their email was deleted and they have been blocked

I just went through this with Square Trade, only mine was about a deadbeat who decided to pay wayyyy after I negged her and then tried to get the neg removed. She tried to claim I never sent her package and had no idea why I negged her! HA!
Anyway, it was explained to me that if you do NOT respond, Square Trade can find for the filing party by your default. So my advice is to respond to Square Trade, explain the details in a professional manner, offer the fact that you have proof of receipts and then forget about it.

True statement...that's the way it works.

But, in order to respond to ST you have to agree to their terms. That means you give up your rights to them to sell your email name to the SPAMMERS of the world.
In my case, if the deadbeat wins by default and gets the neg from me removed, who cares? If she thinks that is worth 20 bucks or whatever ST charges, then I hope she is happy

This has nothing to do with a neg at this point. Neither of us has posted feedback.
I don't see what difference it makes if they rule in the petitioner's (bidder's) favor or not. They don't seem to have any authority to do anything. I have never created a relationship with them so they have no way to sanction me. As far as I can tell, the only thing they are authorized to do is remove negatives. Otherwise, their job seems to be to try to get both sides to come to some agreement about what to do but they have not authority to force the parties to talk or even follow any agreement. Am I wrong?

RB...I don't understand your statement that you must agree to their terms. Square Trade set no terms in my case. I don't believe you have to agree to anyone's terms. I didn't. To Square Trade I stated the facts, dates of e-mails, date of posting negative feedback for the filer, the date postmarked on the filer's envelope (3 days AFTER I posted negative feedback), the date of mailing the product and the USPS delivery confirmation number. They shut the filer down...no neg removed for her!
I do not belong to Square Trade, but I can tell you that in my case, stating the facts to them worked for me.

stormypetr...I guess you could ignore ST if you wish, but it would seem to me that in order for you to have both feet to stand on, it wouldn't hurt to state your case to them. Heck, it would never do any harm to have your facts on file anywhere you can get them. ST may only have authority to remove negs, I don't know...but I think your winner is full of fluff. You can contact the postmaster general and ask why the insurance isn't being allowed. You can also e-mail the postal service and forward to them copies of her e-mails. Dollars to donuts says she is
misunderstanding what they are telling her or she is not disclosing all the facts to you. Just my opinion.

I have already gone to the USPS website and told them that her post office is refusing to file the claim and asking them to explain why.
I know that both Ebay and Paypal would deny any complaint she might try to make so I am not worried there.
She is so insistant on doing this from her end, it makes me wonder if she is up to something. Apparently, this has happened to her several times before. I have over a 200 rating on Ebay and 400+ on Yahoo and have never had a damaged item as a buyer or seller.
She acted like it could only be done if I filed from this end and ignored my attempts to tell her it could be done by either of us. Now she tells me she did try and they said no. I don't believe that she ever tried.

On the front page of the email I received from ST, it said I had to click to "agree to their terms" in order to respond. I filled in my response and tried to send it without agreeing. I got one of those "go back and click the agree box or the response will not go through" screens.
Then I deleted it and told my reader to block all future SPAM from Square Trade.
