According to eBay, you cannot have an ID that uses any (or all!) of the following, whether you are a Powerseller or not:
Things you can't include:
The @, &, <, or > symbol
URLs (for example xyz.com)
Consecutive underscores "__"
An underscore "_", dash "-", or period "." at the beginning of a User ID
Spaces or tabs
The word "eBay"—only eBay employees may use "eBay" in their User IDs
The letter "e" followed by numbers

I am confused?
What is wrong with it?
If I buy something from a guy who has an e-biz and his email is [email protected] that means he is getting email from his ebay bidders. I don't think it's any different than if I made my id my email address.

Edited to add, one seller I know has been doing it for a spell. I have never bought from, though.

No offence intended, to you. I know PowerSellers work hard. I just wonder why they can use eBay in their ID when the rules clearly state it is a no-no.
We all know that PowerSellers get perks that the rest of us don't, I just wondered if this was one of them.
I also think that it may be confusing to a new eBayer. I know several people who have not had their computer for very long and would not understand that those people were not eBay or eBay employees.
Let's face it not every PowerSeller is as honest as you in your dealings on eBay. Some of the very best and very worst are eBay PowerSellers just like in real life.

I believe there are some old id's that may still have ebay in the name. Also, some had ebay in their email address and used their email address as their ebay id. I have seen the ebay id "ebaygirl@.... (some isp)". But I don't think that would get through today. Care to give us an example?

I think ebay must have a computer filter to determine the word 'ebay' or any obscenities in an ID when an ebay user signs up. Otherwise there would be thousands of those no-no words in ebay IDs out there. I also don't think ebay 'grandfathered' any old ebay IDs that may have had 'ebay' in their ID. There may be some sellers that may have found a way to sneak the word ebay in their ID somehow.

The only examples we see are with "ebay...@..." in an emailaddress. Ebay cannot control that. And I do believe that in the past year or so, they would not accept as your EBAY ID, just your emailaddress if it has ebay in it. I'll give it a try. ........
Yep, I got an email address with ebay in it but when I went to register at ebay, they NO LONGER allow you to use your emailaddress as your id. So the id's in question are emaddr's with ebay in them, and are older ones. I expect many power sellers have been around for a while, got themselves a neat emailaddress, and then (some time ago) used that when they registered.

Older eBay users will remember this and newer ones may not know it:
Many moons ago when you signed up for eBay you could use your email address as your handle or use just a handle. It was your choice.
If you used your email address as your handle it was a clickable link to send you an email. This was nice as there was no "Ask the seller a question" link.
Then eBay made it where the email handle wasn't clickable as a link to send email and tried to get everyone to change their email handle to a handle that wasn't an email address. If you aver changed it to a handle you could never change back to an email address.
I am one of those that kept me email address as my handle. I've been on eBay for four years. Glad I never changed.

You can't use your email address as a handle any more (unless you are grandfathered) but you can put your email addy as a clickable link (mailto) in your description.

When I first joined ebay four years ago I used my email address as my ebay ID like most users back then. Ebay made a big deal out of email harvestering computer programs stealing the addresses and placing them on spam lists and they pleaded with users to change their ebay ID's if they used their email address. I wish I had kept mine as there is a ton of spam every day still.

Yes, the beat does go on, Jack! I hear those drums...So will someone tell me why, after using my email address as my ID for 2 years with Ebay, I recently changed it to another email addy and name WITH NO PROBLEM AT ALL..and kept all of my feedback, too. Nary a question, a slap on the wrist...nothing...So strange those Ebay rules! ;o) Snuggle

I've had my email address as my eBay ID for over 5 years now, no problem.
rampaged, I think you have the wrong snugglump, I think he/she is saying in the post above that they registered with ebay with their email address as their ID, and changed it to a new email address, and they didn't make them use a 'handle'.
I know, this is the third time my husband has changed emails since 98, and ebay has let him keep his email address as his ebay ID, last change was about 2 months ago. I guess if you started with one, you get to keep using an email address as your ID?

I joined eBay in 1996 and used my e-mail address as my ID. I never changed it till this summer (2002) when our ISP crashed, and I had to get mail ASAP, and I simply changed it to another e-mail address, with e-bay as part of the name, I didn't know that was a no-no - no one said anything, and the change went through with no problems. Who knows!

Rampaged...you are quite the investigator...however, you do NOT have the correct person..I am a seller with a feedback of 332...please be careful about these things...why did you feel compelled to look that up and THEN write about it??? Have I bothered you in some way? Snuggle
