Hi

I had a buyer who never paid. He did send address and stated he would pay, but never responded to any emails, etc.

I left negative feedback and now a month since auction has ended he said that his 22 month old baby had been burned (2 and 3rd degree burns) and that was why he never got back to me.

Is there anything I can do with Ebay to change the negative feedback that was left?
It was warranted at the time, however, if one is to believe his story then perhaps it should be changed.

Any comments and who to write to on Ebay?
Their screens are very hard to manuever to write anyone an email.

Thanks,
Jeff

I don't know who to e-mail. But cynical me would check his other FB and then his bidding and winning history. If there's been any bidding activity during this period he's blowing smoke.

If he's on the level and eBay can't /won't help, tell him to respond to the neg and then you can respond to his response with "Would not have left negative if I had known of these circumstances".

If you and he are both agreeable to having it removed, Square Trade can get it done. Be sure and make him pay all the fees involved. First, I would do as jensmome suggests and check and see if there was any bidding activity during this period. Deadbeats have some very convincing excuses.

It's a real shame that ebay never switched their flawed feedback system to the one used by Yahoo Auctions where a seller or buyer can change their feedbacks but the original text is left in place as well as new comments. It almost seems like ebay wants to make money off the Square Trade thing.

Squaretrade charges $20 to "mediate" and get eBay to remove negative feedback - costs $20 bucks even if there's agreement between buyer and seller to remove, so they're not really mediating anything - just collecting their $20

The only way around the $20 is that if you're interested in being a squaretrade member, if you sign up for their annual plan, they do give you one "free" mediation.

I'd do a buyer search first too. Then if you still want to change the feedback you've left you can add an addendum with what's called a 'follow-up' feedback comment. You don't need to wait until he responds on his FB for you to respond, you can leave this 'follow-up' comment right under the negative you previously left him.

As a seller we'd left super FB on one of our buyers. When he received the item he left us a neutral stating 'wish there weren't duplicates'. Since we'd listed each and every item and fully disclosed which had duplicates, I wanted to at least respond not only to his comment on our auction, but to ours on his.

Just one more option you have.

Has this guy paid for the item? In any case, I would leave the negative, but if he did pay, I would add a follow up note that payment did come after a couple of months and leave it at that. Personally, if I had a nickle for everytime someone wrote something like that to me, I wouldn't have to do to online auctions anymore.

jeffj318: From the tone of your posting, I'm guessing you are relatively new to eBay and may not know how to make a followup feedback comment. It does take a bit of navigating.

Choose "Site Map" at the top of any eBay page.

Choose "Feedback Forum", then "Review and follow up on feedback you have left about others"

You will have to sign in, then choose how many feedbacks you want displayed per page.

Then if you choose to leave a conciliatory followup, you can.
