I have a pretty snazzy classic car that I am thinking about ebaying but I have a question.
I'm sure this has been discussed here before, I just wasn't paying attention or something.
Actually allmost every new question posted here has probably been discussed before. It's probably rare when an actual NEW question gets asked here. So therefore this is the place where you go to beat a dead horse but this paragraph may well be worthy of a new separate thread so i'll go on with my original question and lets beat this issue a little more, ok.
After the auction ends how do you handle shippment of the vehichle to the winning bidder? I have seen some car auctions where the seller says that transportation is the winning bidders responsibility. I guess this must mean that the winning bidder has to buy an airplane ticket and fly to your location to pick up the car, or what?

There are trucking companies thet specilize in transporting automobiles. Check your local yellow pages for auto transporters. The other option is for them to pickup the vehicle themselves.

A friend of mine sells cars on ebay and many buyers do just that.
If within a couple hundred miles he will deliver (for a prepaid fee, of course).
Assuming the car runs. If not, let the buyer arrange.

Have you tried autotrader.com or carsoup? You better study many of the closed listings for cars similar to your to see what kind of bidders they have attracted. The majority have deadbeat bidders, so if you do list it at ebay, you better keep a close eye on who is bidding.
Good luck

Any local moving and storage company that is affiliated with a major van line can give you the 800# for several RELIABLE auto transport companies. It takes less than 5 minutes to get a rate quote to any point in the U.S. or Canada.
The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

Best to save yourself the headache as far as shipping goes. Let the buyer arrange this or they can pick it up.
Just be sure to state a time limit for removal, or you could wind up with this car sitting in your driveway for a long time.
Best of luck.

Thanks for all your good advice. Dye, that would be most helpful.
I plan on charging a deposit to be paid within 5 business days, full payment to be paid within 14 calendar days and the actual pickup and/or shippment of the vehichle within 30 days at the high bidders expense.

We bought a car on ebay. It was within 5 hours of driving distance so we picked it up - otherwise we did plan to buy a one way ticket and drive it back. We wanted to see it first before we gave him the cashiers check (we did have to put a deposit down).

Thanks Dye, I bookmarked his website. I'll wait and see after the auction closes what the winning bidder wants to do.

I just thought I'd post an update on my car auction.
The auction ended last week with the high bid being a little over my reserve. The winning bidder sent a deposit 3 days later. He bought a plane ticket to Albuquerque and rode the shuttle to Santa Fe and we completed the deal about 20 minutes ago. He paid off the rest in cash, which was nice and he brought his own liscense plate to put on the car for the long drive home.
I bought him dinner at a Mexican restaurant before he split town with the car and we talked about Ebay, car auctions and all sorts of stuff.
All in all it was a very smooth transaction, now I wanna do it again. Hmmmmmm I wonder how much my 76 Chevy truck would sell for on ebay.
