It's tough with just the few clues on the small pieces of paper but it may be from this source:

Larson, Judy L. "Three Southern World's Fairs: Cotton States and International Exposition, Atlanta, 1895; Tennessee Centennial, Nashville, 1897; South Carolina Inter-State and West Indian Exposition, Charleston, 1901/2: Creating Regional Self-Portraits through Expositions." Ph.D. diss., Emory University, 1998.

World's fairs were a way in which cities could construct and promote new images of themselves. In the South, fair organizers felt the need to address two issues - first, the image of the South as "coarse" and backward, and second, the perceived division and animosity between the North and the South. The Fine Arts Buildings, Woman's Building's, and Negro Buildings at each of the three fairs are assessed to explore these themes. A bibliography is included.

Please note that no one has made a joke -yet- about nut cases.

Have you searched "nut case" on ebay, esp. in the fairs areas, just in case there's a clue?

It might be the 1893 Columbian Expo in Chicago. In any case, a nice collectible piece. I want it.

rgrem, I checked the site for the 1893 expo and the buildings aren't named the same as the ones on this...

I couldn't find any sites for the other expos but did reserve one of the books listed on tooltimes link

I have had this for about 20 years and have searched many times for info on it to no avail.

World's Columbian Exposition of 1893 maybe?

They show some of the buildings at this site.

kiara, what would we do without you? that is it, I checked a few of the other buildings too and that is definitely the one.

now for your opinions....

since this is made of metal and so small..
only 1 1/2" long and 1" wide...what are the chances this is very hard to find much less still complete and in good condition?

what kind of bid should I start this at?..I don't like to use reserve but i am thinking it might be wise here...

sure sound like a newbie don't I LOL!

rarriffle, I can't find any others on the internet and who knows how many are still out there. I'm sure a collector somewhere will want this but as you know, timing is everything on ebay.

What to start it at? Should you use a reserve? I don't know what to suggest on this, maybe someone else has good ideas for you.

I know many say that the word "rare" is overused but I would consider using it on this one if it was mine to list.

Good luck!

Here's what I'd do, not knowing much about this particular collectible area.

I'd definitely call it "rare." And I'd opt for gallery picture. I might spring for boldface title, too, just to get more attention.

I"d start it under $10 - maybe $8.95 - with a reserve of $15 - $20 at the most, to encourage bidding.

I'm sure there'll be differing opinions here; I tend to be conservative on opening bid amounts. Good luck to you!

thank you all for your suggestions and help with identifying.

please keep up with the suggestions about starting and reserves

i was thinking "Rare" too but always see it overused...i do think it fits here though.
