On my auctions I state "no refunds unless item is misrepresented". I was just notified by the high bidder, that he was notified the item arrived in England, but he had trouble with customs/post office, so he told them to send it back and he wants a refund.
Any ideas? comments?

What was the problem he had with customs?
Was it an error on your part, or did he just not want to wade through the problem himself?
For him to get his refund he will have to return the item to you, I should hope, and that means he has to get it out of customs to do so. If he can get it out of customs to RETURN it, then -- where's the beef? What's his *next* excuse for buyer's remorse?

Sounds like this buyer does not want to pay their local taxes.
I would not accept a return on this basis.Any and all taxes or duties is their problem, not yours!
Do what you feel is best for you, but I would let them know that there will be no refund.
They should have asked you first before doing this.

"he had trouble with customs/post office"
Did you ask him what the trouble was?
Actually it sounds like the problem is his, not yours. Tell him to stuff it.

I asked him what the problem was (actually he said he had many problems) but have not gotten any response yet. I also reminded him of my "policy".
One thing that I am not sure about..it's on it's way back, apparently, and if I stick to my policy, what do I do with the item when I get it?

The first thing you'll have to do with the item when you get it back is, pay the return postage!
Hope it's worth it, your buyer didn't think it was!

You can just refuse it.
Try returning anything with any company without their ok, thats what they would do.

What's this guy's feedback look like? Has he tried this with other sellers? Is he a newbie who doesn't know about customes, or has he been buying long enough to know what to expect on international shipments? Did he by any chance ask you to list this item as a "gift" or understate the value on the customs forms?
The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

This my first time using this forum, and it's been extremely helpful, thank you all.

he has (119)feedback, and there is (1) negative of similiar circumstance about a year ago. He didn't ask for it to be sent as a gift, and with the amount of feedback, I would think he would have been aware of the charges.

drkosmos, even if he did ask that it be marked as a gift...that would be fraud so hopefully you would have said no to that request.

How can he have a problem with the item if he never took possession of it. Since you will be responsible for the return postage, just refuse the item. I hope you have proof of mailing if he paid with paypal, otherwise, you should be fine.

his response "I received a package slip. I called to have it sent again. I tried this three different occasions and was told each time that it would be redelivered. It wasn't. I notified them to have it sent back."

That's a good one. I would tell him absolutely NO refund, that is an issue between him and his post office. Let him know it will be refused on your end, so he should just get his butt down to the post office and pick up the package, otherwise he will be out the package and the money...
