My mom received this letter today, and it makes NO sense and all the links are dead. The phone number also doesn't work. Tell me what you think, and has anyone else gotten this? She has done NOTHING wrong and can't think of anything that might be fraudulant in her account or auctions! Thanks, Sherah

some other people have gotten this email too and other like it. They discuss it on some of the Ebay community boards. I saw it on the Ebay "safe harbor" chat thread and Ebay said it is a spoof and that it wasn't from Ebay. I have gotten similar emails over the past few weeks. The one email wanted to know my banking info, paypal visa number and pin, mothers maiden name, driver's license and the list went on. That one seemed to be the newest one from the chat boards.- Be careful and forward the email to Ebay safe harbor so they can track down who ever is doing this. !

one more thing is that I have been reading is that you get more emails like that if you have your user id on Ebay as your email address. It is worth a thought anyways!

I got the same email and the address definitely looked correct but both links are dead and the phone number does not work...

on the second link you get the site unavailable screen and see the www.ebay.com link, when you click it you go straight to ebay.

Look at the email header and see if it actually came from ebay.

there is so much garbage out there that it's really getting disgusting! but if anyone EVER asks for personal or financial information in an email, hit that delete key! legitimate companies are so aware of this SPAM SCAM that they wouldn't ask, for fear of giving these bad boys an opening to slip into.

if you're interested in finding out how to determine where an email actually came from, i can tell you, but it isn't a simple process. first you have to look at the actual header of the message. don't believe the words in it, as most are forged addresses. then you will have to use the number of the sending site (in the Received From line). the numbers can be forged, too - valid ones are in brackets ([]). then you have to look it up in a special table provided by internet agencies. it will tell you who the site is registered to. if you want the real deep details ask me for them in this thread.

oops! bad case of CRS. forgot this part:

EMAIL IS NOT SECURE, so you should never send any info of any kind that you wouldn't want a thief, the FBI, your mother or the Pope to see.
