Found this one posted in OTWA. Obviously the seller didn't have a clue about this auction. Especially since shipping is $5.00 - insurance optional.

THAT'S INCREDIBLE !!!!!!!
They must be feeling like they are fixing to hit the lottery, especially after starting the auction the way they did.
When I checked it, it was over $10,000 for one empty beercan! Was that the plane that was owned by Howard Hughes? I'm guessing that beer was given out during the maiden (and only,I think) flight?
This gives us all hopes for finding those "treasures".

Wonder never knew a beer can could be worth so much... Yep gotta say that seller is lucky and hopefully the winner won't be deadbeat.

Looks like the B 314 Clipper (Pan-American Airways), built by Boeing. The Spruce Goose had eight engines...four over each wing...maiden and only flight, 1947.
What a great auction. So fun to see someone stike it rich. A big-time unexpected Christmas gift for the seller!
Insurance optional

I saw the Spruce Goose when it was next to the Queen Mary in Long Beach as a tourist attraction about 12 years ago ( now it's in Oregon I believe )
It is a sight to behold and you have to wonder how it ever managed the few feet of liftoff that it achieved over the water on it's only flight.

Yes what a lucky seller. I doubt if she knew what she had. Something just sitting around the house trying to get her attention to sell me on eBay. Now everyone will be digging around the old dumps looking for that one beer can.
When I was younger and collecting postcards my friend collected beer cans. Had a nice collection. This was about 25 years ago. Well he bought land, sold his beer can collection for $50,000.00 cash and built his dream home for him and his wife. I am not the lucky person. You never know what is around the next corner. Thanks Ihula for showing us there is a sliver lining to a cloud especially for that seller.

Libra, you didn't read the description....
He found it or did he store it? in the rafters in the garage....
If I were the buyer I would be on a plane to collect and pay for the item in person....

Just think he is probably drinking the other 5 beers of that 6 pack now so they will be ready to list on eBay.

Just checked, now at $11300.00. No, that is not the "Spruce Goose" which did make only one flight.

These are probably kids fooling around anyway.....what kind of brain-dead pretzel-choker would truly spend 11THOUSAND BUCKAROOOOOS on an empty beer can???
Of course, a full can is a different story altogether....

Maybe they didn't read the auction carefully enough, and believe they are getting a full can of beer?

I was checking the feedback and "about me" pages of the current high bidders. These don't look like pranksters to me. A couple of them are big time collectors. As soon as I can find my flashlight, I'm going up into my attic and prowl around a little.

In the other thread (where I first noticed this auction) one person was a collector and he said he wouldn't be surprised if it reached $15,000. He was debating bidding on it - said he has paid that much before for a can. I can't imagine!

Imagine this-the seller probably bought it at a garage sale for the $19.95 he started the bidding at--that same person who he bought it from and saw this on ebay and went out and hung himself in the garage LOL

wonder if this auction started with a Buy It Now price...and if so....what was it?
|

The Buy It Now price should only be used for auction goods that have a known price range and not 62 year old beer cans.
Of course, the seller only has a (9) feedback rating and could have made a major mistake like adding a BIN and got lucky when the first bid was made and the BIN disappeared.
I do wish that ebay would leave some kind of a notation that an auction started with a BIN and that it has since disappeared on the auction page. The only negative aspect of ebay doing that may be that some sellers may get a lot of questions about the disappeared BIN price. ( especially if this beer can seller had used it )

Why is it so rare? Look at the date, 1941. It is hard to believe anything metal survived the metal drives of World War II.
