Got an email from ebay this morning--they're offering me the opportunity to register with them as a bronze-level powerseller. Should I take advantage of this? What is the downside?

Congratulations!!! I'd be interested in hearing the different opinions too. I got one this morning also.

I won't be accepting it because I'm not consistant in my sales. I go all out for a while, get tired and then don't list for months. So, obviously this wouldn't work for me.

I think two things about it are positive. First...the easier contact with ebay it would provide. Second I think some buyers see it as an endorsement from ebay of the seller.

No sleep, no vacations. The list could get longer. Remember you have to keep it month after month and only you can decide if you can do that. No matter what we say should not effect your decision as that is up to you how hard you want to work.

Good Luck in your decision.....

I agree with Libra63.

Only you know your selling plans for the future.

For me, I am like Linda K. May sell really heavy for few months and then not sell for 2 or 3 months while I get more things ready or just take time off.

I was offered the PS logo over six months ago. I have NEVER maintained the levels I did when I initially "qualified" for the status.

I took over 2 months off when my son was born and have only listed sporadically since then--nowhere near the $2000 a month they suggest.

I haven't gotten anything saying I have to maintain my selling amounts and the PS logo is still sparkling next to my name.

I don't think they are reviewing their records as they would suggest.

Bronze get in for $1,000. a month not the old $2,000. Five different levels of PS now.

I was offered the same this AM too - but dont see any real benefit to offset the resentment I perceive against Powersellers
on the part of many buyers.

I have never received an answer from an email sent to a powerseller. That is why they have such a bad reputation. It seems they are all very busy making money and if they miss a sale because you didn't bid it doesn't really matter. They sell nearly everything they list anyway.

I was going to break down and buy a used laptop on Ebay. I have tried 3 different times with 3 different "power" sellers. I sent emails asking for specifics about operating program, floppy drives, etc. and did not receive a reply from a single one. That was done over a two month period as each time I decided to just forget about it, then saw another ad and tried again.

All three stated in the ad to email with questions...guess they didn't really mean it though.

Just a rambling post to explain why most of us do not like power sellers. I know the more you sell the less time you have, so that probably explains why they don't reply to emails, but I need a little reassurance on a $400 item that is at least 3 years old. Of course, they all sold anyway so my not bidding made no difference to the seller in the long run.

If you need health insurance you might have a new reason to accept.

Ebay says the plan will roll out on January 2. Here's a link to the latest info on it. Not sure how to make it clickable but maybe someone else will help there.

Now I have to get busy and qualify. I never really cared before now, but we had to drop our health insurance in May (It went up to $750 a month when we turned 55) and are now uninsured

It was nice to read that if you reach powerseller status to qualify for the insurance and you take a month or two off of selling that it doesn't effect your insurance coverage.

Wonder how much it will cost?? They are individual plans which are traditionaly more costly than group plans..

I may have to get my butt in gear and start selling to make that power seller status. If they would add in my half.com sales I would have had it months ago.

Hi
I have been offered the Bronze PS logo a few months ago and I havnt gained anything or lost anything, by accepting. But today I get an email saying that I have to bring my auctions up to the level of the bronze PS or they regret that I will have to be removed.
I have no problem with them removing me, and when they feel they want me back, they could have me back.
What I'm saying is this,.........You really don't gain much except extra work if you want to maintain your level.
Speaking for myself, I really don't care one way or another, I do what im doing for myself not for Ebay Stasis, but for some it might be important to be a PS, well then that's there choice.
My services to my buyers have not changed, weather I'm a Power Seller or Not, so my suggestion to you is accept since it was offered to you. But at the same time dont let it worry you if you cant maintain the level they would like, just do as you have been doing or less, which ever fits into your routine and dont worry about maintaining the Bronze level unless its something you want to do.

lindajean: I really feel for you. I live in CA & have Medicare & Blue Cross Supplemental. It costs me $124.00 per month.

Thanks, everybody! I've decided to give this bronze thing a trial run. However, November was a very unusual month for me in total number of sales and I rather doubt that ebay will want to keep me around as a bronze powerseller in the future! I just don't have the energy to work that hard. . . .

So I'll have the bronze designation for perhaps a month, or until ebay catches on?!

I accepted it about three weeks ago. I debated about it too. I had an exceptional summer of sales but don't expect winter to be that good. In Midwest winters it's not so easy to visit all my bargain haunts. I finally decided "why not take it for as long as they give it to you".

Does anyone really think eBay can offer quality health insurance cheaper than an insurer can offer it ? Don't hold your breath.
