I have been searching ebay since Sept. for that special thing I wanted. I knew eventually I would find it. I usually only sell but occasionally buy. It is a gift for someone else so now we are getting really close. Well low and behold the other day I find it. Great price and shipping and handling is with Priority Mail so I am sure it will be here before Christmas. I win as the only bidder for the great, low price. I paypal immediately so I dont hold up the shipping. The guy emails me telling me that my package will ship this morning. Well, today I get an email from him that he accidently sent it by UPS ground and it should be here on the 23rd. Well that is okay, if UPS has no problems and delivers it on time. However, I am a little peeved about the whole thing. I have emailed him for the tracking number and also to find out how much the shipping actually cost. I dont know if it is cheaper or more expensive. I just need to vent. I guess because last week I did the same thing. I mailed something Media Mail that should have went Priority and it was an honest mistake. But to make up for it because I felt so bad I sent the guy a refund for the whole shipping cost. Not that I need this guy to do this for me but he could at least give me the tracking number. Oh well, live and learn. Is anyone else having these last minute Christmas Shopping Woes?

Well I understand your worries, but I heard a lady at the PO yesterday saying how fast she got a package from UPS in 3 days! So it could be faster the USPS has taken a lot longer last week...
Yes it was probably cheaper a lot cheaper to ship, I set a fixed price on shipping then choose the shipper depending on how far it is going since usps changed there rates, your low shipping probably the seller had too do that to save his butt, I guess the only thing you could have done was ask special for priority. Don't worry I think you will get it.

I hope you are right. You mention one is cheaper than the other. I dont mean to sound dumb but which is cheaper. The only shipping option he offered was Priority Mail which for my zone figured out to be $15 plus I paid for insurance. If UPS is cheaper than Priority then he made money off me. If it is more expensive then I feel bad for him as he took a loss. I dont use UPS at all so I am not really familiar with their rates or service. Thanks!

For larger items, UPS is cheaper. For little packages (books, videos) Mail is cheaper.

If priority was going to be $15, then the package was firaly heavy. UPS would have been (I'm guessing) $7.00 or so.

It's going UPS so actually you get insurance and tracking thrown in for free, not a bad deal for you. The shipping time may end up being the same because the PO gets hit really hard this time and Priority can be a few days extra.

I don't consider this a Holiday woe.

If you know how much the package weighs, you can go to the UPS.com site and figure the rate to see what they paid.

If you don't know the exact weight go to the USPS site and see what weight would run the $15 fee and then use that to calculate it at UPS.

Thanks to everyone for your very helpful answers. I am just a little stressed about gifts like many people become this time of year. Thanks though, I appreciate it.

I am just a little stressed about gifts like many people become this time of year.

Did you ever get a Christmas gift after Christmas? Sometimes I would, when I was growing up. It was pretty cool. Kinda like, "Christmas isn't really over, here's another gift."

I mention this because as you say, many people get stressed about the timing. If your item arrives late, will the recipient think any less of you? I'll bet not. Will s/he be just as thrilled? I'd bet.

Dr. Fluffy prescribes a cup of your favorite hot adult beverage and a viewing of _Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol_.

Holiday blessings.

Remember you bid and won your item that you have been looking for since September and as you stated at a pretty good price. That should make you happy. So the seller made a little bit on your postage, its a little Christmas Present for him also. This should make a very nice Christmas for both of you.

Merry Christmas to all!!!!!!!!

To Fluffy- Thanks much that is some really good advice and I think that is what I will do.
To Libra- I hadn't looked at it in that way. All I saw was the negative points but there are some positives which you have pointed out. It sort of gives me a different outlook on the whole situation.
Thanks and Merry Christmas to all.
