I have a BidPay button on my auctions. I've arranged (I thought) to have a PayPal button, too. The BidPay is showing up on my one pending auction (a test auction to see if both buttons will show) but PayPal button isn't there. Is this possible to do, or does one button cancel out the other? Seems I heard long ago that PayPal won't allow their button unless it's the ONLY one??? I don't know whether to go to PayPal and scold them or try to fix this.

Yes you can have both Bidpay and Paypal buttons on your auctions I do it all the time. Sometimes it takes Paypal 3 days to get the button to show up on your auction.

Paypal sends me an email that they have updated my auctions with the button

Thanks, people. These auctions just started last night, so I'll give it another day or two before I get anxious.

NB: if you put a BidPay button on yer auctions, you dis-qualify yerself from participation in the PAYPAL PREFERRED program with the debit card...

tomwiii and smenkvele: Now the paypal button is there, but way down the page ("seller has added this information" whereas the Bidpay button is toward the end of my auction description area. Will that change? Is it just temporary? Or what?

I've had both Bidpay and Paypal on my auctions for 6 months with no problem and use my Paypal debit card all the time.

Have they just not caught me yet?
Didn't realize I was breaking a rule if I am.

Before Ebay bought Paypal, I used to advertise Billpoint and Paypal. I got two emails from Paypal threatening that if I didn't remove the "other online payment service" blurb from my TOS, they'd un-prefer me!

I did remove it but they probably don't care now that they have acquired Paypal. It's probably just a threat until Ebay gets really settled into Paypal.

They still care.
If you don't use paypal only for Ebay you will not receive your 1.5% cash back on debit card purchases.
If that matters not to you do whatever you want.

Alas, I'm not a big enough seller to care about the debit card business here, so I guess I'm okay for a while--until PP and EBay change the rules again?!

Well, OTOH, if you PAY FEES to PayPal, then you should think about ways to REDUCE those fees

The easiest way (other than refusing PayPal) is to get the Debit Card (FREE) and then sign-up with the PP-PREFERED program...

All that means is that everytime you use the debit card as a CC (non-PIN use), you get a rebate of 1.5% -- that really lowers your fees at PP greatly!

The only stipulation is you have to agree to ONLY advertise PP on your auctions -- you can mention BidPay, etc, in you EOA emails & on your ME page...just NOT in your auctions!

GREAT PROGRAM

Two last questions (I promise), tomwiii!

1. Does the 1.5% rebate go to me directly or to lower my PayPal fees?

2. Is there a charge for getting the debit card? Monthly charge? Yearly charge?

Thanks. This is an interesting idea to me, although I don't have more than a few PayPal buyers per month. My financial advisor (the husband) will want to know more about it before thinking we want to do it. (We don't make independent money decisions apart from thinking it through.)

Answers:

1) The 1.5% rebate goes directly into your PP account

2) The DEBIT CARD is FREE!!

Do not confuse the PP DEBIT CARD with the PP CREDIT CARD! The PP CREDIT CARD don't COUNT! Only the FREE (NO FEES NO ANYTHING) PP DEBIT CARD!!

FROM THE PAYPAL HELP SECTION:

To become PayPal Preferred and get 1.5% cashback on all of your debit card purchases:
Sell on eBay

Enroll in the PayPal Preferred program by clicking the "PayPal Preferred" link in the "Enhance Account" box on your Account Overview page. Enrollment will include registering your eBay User ID and Password.

Advertise PayPal as the only online payment service on your eBay listings. You can still accept checks and money orders, and you can even mention other online payment services in your end-of-auction email to buyers, but to be eligible for PayPal Preferred, you need to advertise PayPal exclusively on your actual auction listing.
After you have enrolled, you will receive 1.5% cashback on all purchases where you do not use a PIN (restaurants, department stores, online, etc). Most merchants will let you use your ATM/Debit Card without entering your PIN - just choose Credit instead of Debit when given the choice.
