Thought some of you might like to know eBay is experimenting with a positive feedback ratio. Hope they implement it.

looks good.
although it might be better to have the option of showing your feedback ratio. what happens if you just started out and you have 2 positive and 1 neg? people will probably stray away if you try and sell something.

What's wrong with the current system? It isn't too hard to see the difference between a 950/3 and a 45/4 pos./neg ratio.

it would probably be more effective of a tool if it was broken down into seller v. bidder feedback.
ie
JOEEBAY (XXX) Seller rating of XXX w/60.3% POS and Buyer rating of XXX w/95.3% POS
vs
JOEEBAY (XXX) rating of XXXX w/90% POS
The way it looks could be misleading info (if this is an attempt to judge a seller at a glance)
Too many sellers who try to cover up a bad history by winning oodles of recipe auctions @99c with intentions to bury & outweigh bad FB.

I read about this on another board, unfortunately I can't remember where.
The BIG sellers, like the 1 Cent CD lady, was pushing for this. From her point of view it makes a lot of sense. She's got a bazillion negative feedbacks, but her overall ratio is quite good. Some sellers ONLY look at the total number of Negs, and high-volume sellers get a lot of them, even if they are overall good sellers.
As an aside, I just checked her feedback on eBay and it shows only 247 Positives. Obviously eBay is broken this morning!
Everyone gets a whacko now and then (See my other thread about feedback for my nutcase of the week) and a ration of 2-3% isn't bad.

I don't care what you sell if a seller has over 3 negs per 1,000 sales they are not taking care of business very well.

I DON'T SEE WHERE IT WILL MAKE MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE, IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING A BUYER REALLY WANTS, THEY ARE GOING TO BID ON IT, I THINK VERY FEW BIDDERS LOOK AT FEEDBACK UNBLESS IT IS FOR SOMETHING MORE COMMON AND OTHER SELLERS ARE SELLING IT.

Shouldn't it depend on what the negs are for? I have a few from NPB's. This somehow makes me a bad seller?

Although I have less than 3 Negs per 1000, I think that's probably the exception, not the rule. 3 out of 100 I can understand, but 3 out of 1000 is a little too strict.
My own way of shopping:

Assuming there are more than 100 feedbacks on a seller:
1-2% I'll buy without any worries.
3-4% I'll take a look at the negs, then decide case-by-case. I'll probably go for it.
5%-6% Probably not, but I'll look at the negs anyway. I'd probably pay more if I can find a more reliable seller.
7% and up - Movin' on...

Personally, I think there is too much clutter right now with repetitive information. I would like to see the "with 95.2% positive feedback" right next to the About Me icon.
zoomin, that's an interesting point you make. But IMO it might clutter an already busy eBay screen. If the point is help sellers and buyers alike, a lower than expected positive feedback ratio should motivate the user to click deeper.

I agree -- that criteria is much too strict to be used as a hard and fast "rule." I have close to 800 feedbacks and 3 negs from buyers who never paid. How does this make me a bad seller?
Case in point - I have a guy today that seemed like a nice guy - auction ended Dec. 25th, and his payment never came. Wrote him and said I never got it, he said he'd send another one 1/23.
Yesterday I wrote and said that -neither- payment had arrived, and I was getting suspicious that they weren't sent. He outright confirmed that he never sent payment, then said "This is a $5 item, can't you just let it go? If you leave me negative feedback, I will leave you negative feedback too."
It's unavoidable. I filed NPB and FVF, then negged.

Edit: I had to go back and look at my profile, but one neg was from a newbie buyer with 3 feedbacks. He negged 2 days after the auction ended because he had not yet received his item(?) He did not pay for overnight shipping, so who knows why he thought he'd have it in 2 days. There's -nothing- you can do about these kind of negs.
