Has anyone gotten notification from Paypal about a new security update? It's a patch that comes in zip form and they say it needs to be installed by Feb. 20th or your account will be locked. Is this on the up and up??
Thanks,
Shirley

Not likely it's legit. Being that Paypal is all web based, I can't see how they'd need a local security patch on your PC. Check the message headers and see if it actually came from Paypal. I'm betting not.

Open and run that file and next week you'll be posting how PayPal has been hacked and your account was cleaned out. Lots of folks out there trying to get their hands in your pockets.

Well, I did save it but never opened it. Just now deleted it out of my system. Anyway, they won't get much since I only have $5.00 in there right now.
Thanks,
Shirley
But if they have access to your Paypal account, they have access to your dcredit card/bank acoount and so on. It's about a lot more than the $5.00 in your account.

Do not download! It is a hacker! Check the headers! Look at the Fraud board!
one of my paypal accounts were drained last week. My account was "hacked" I receive these Paypal email to my info account address which was never an address for Paypal, (clue #1) This person
also directs these email through dnslive.net (Clue #2) that site is shady at best.
I bet this hacker striped email address from websites that accept credit cards. I also had a person buy from me on Yahoo! They asked
for my Paypal account info, then, I never herd from them again.
I am looking into all probabilities.

It makes sense why people do this, it must be pretty profitable to send out these notice and have people input their personal info....

No problem with bank account, am in process of changing banks and no money there either. But did take the precaution to change password in Paypal. Did that about 2 minutes after it happened. Think I will be OK unless anyone can think of something else I haven't done to cover it.

You might want to see if you can forward it to paypal so there security team can work on it and try and uncover who sent it. Time may be of the essence for others.
Also I work in the mortgage business in the real world and you never ever give out a password in an email or personal info.SS#'s ect., unless you are giving it to someone on the phone who is helping you with that account and, or you know who you are talking to.
I have a different password for my cc accounts, bank accounts , paypal, and auctionwatch. They are all different. Complicated, but safer.
By the way there is a new user agreement with paypal I have 55 days to accept it or close my account, which I won't. I have not ever heard of a patch.
Good Luck. You can call PayPal you know. They have a phone # listed in help it takes a while to get to it but it is there.

Hi Shirley,
I know it takes time but I hope you will call or forward your info to paypal so they can try and stop this so it does not happen to someone else. If you hear anything please let us know, Thanks!
