I just used paypal (I hate paypal) to pay for an auction. Never use it as a seller. Thought I'd try it as a buyer. Here is what happened. This is the second and LAST time I use it. I selected method of payment from either my checking account or credit card. I selected credit card and the D#$M thing paid with my checking account!
What IS paypal's phone number. does anyone know?????

Thanks Libra, I just called them and they said that I must have clicked on back button. I know I didnt do that. I quickly checked my checking acct to make sure I had enough money in there. WHEW ! No harm done. I still hate paypal and would not recommend it to anyone

I will never understand why people hate P/P. I have used it since it started & have had several thousand dollars go through it. I have never had a single problem as either a seller or buyer. In fact, I prefer to get paid through PayPal.

I also prefer paypal. The mailing address, auction number and everything is laid out all nice and neat for me to get the packages ready to go. When I receive money orders I have to try and read the persons writing and often wind up just taping their return address on my envelope because I can't tell what it says.
I did up my s&h fifty cents on all items to cover the cost of PP though. With $4 to $8 items I couldn't afford to just eat it. About 90% of my bidders use Paypal

Over a thousand transactions both paying and receiving and not one single problem. Not one. Including many overseas buyers. What am I doing wrong?
Heck, I sell things for 3 other sellers on both my account(s) and theirs. Since we all have "real" jobs and live in 3 different towns, we even "settle up" by sending each other money via PayPal. And as far as I am aware, they have never had a problem. What are we doing wrong?
I charge all my gas and groceries to my PayPal Credit Card. I have charged plane tickets, hotel rooms and rental cars to it. I have withdrawn cash with my PayPal Debit card at every ATM in a 30 mile radius of my house. NEVER a problem. What am I doing wrong???

I have used PP for over 3 years now - tens of thousands of dollars on my selling name, and thousands on my buying name - no problems ever.

I have used it forever as well and no problems (except for a chargeback that I don't think was fair)
BUT I certainly don't want to place blame on those that do have problems. That is karma's way of asking for trouble.
I know people who have had problems and they aren't little problems.
Let's just all cross our fingers that we remain the one's who don't have any beef with them.

I accept PayPal (grudgingly when it's for a $5 item!), and have had no problems so far. I've wanted to use PayPal to pay for an auction item I"ve won, but a while back someone was saying that if you have money in your bank account, they'll just dip into that. So I've never dared go in and do that. There really is a choice, bank acct. OR credit card? So then would they use the credit card they have on file for me, when I get paid for sales? If that question could get answered for me, I'll use PP in a minute.
Oh, that reminds of something funny! A friend asked me to search for Peking Panda beanie buddy for her. Nothing came up, and the prompt at Ebay asked "did you mean to ask for Peeing Panda?" Isn't that funny? (Found the panda later on, of course--lots of them--and they were all minding their own business, not peeing at all!)

Roadsmith,
If you want to Pay thru PayPal, they will take it from your PayPal Balance first if you have one. If you don't have a PayPal Balance or not a sufficient amount in your account, you can pay the remainder with your bank account or credit card that are on file.
PayPal always says it will come out of your bank account, but on the 2nd page (I think) it will show where the money is coming out of, and just under it will be the option to choose your credit card to make the payment. Just click for the credit card option and you can change the method of payment.

Lifeizgood: Thanks for the information. I never leave any balance, even down to the penny, in my PayPal account and would definitely want to use my credit card.
BUT since they can deposit money INTO my bank account, could they also take money OUT of it even if I don't want them to? That was the red flag I saw at in a thread here that scared me. Has this happened to anyone here lately?
Funny thing is that, ahead of time, it's impossible to find that information on the PayPal site. I've searched and searched.

I have another PayPal phone number, besides the one Libra gave above. I don't know what it reaches, but here it is, from my (hidden) list of passwords.

Not lately, not EVER. Although I usually keep a large balance in my PayPal account, on the occasion that I have had to have them draw from my bank accout or credit card, they have alway taken exactly what I authorized, only when I authorized it and only from the account I specified. I don't know if they can make an unauthorized transaction, I only know that in thousands of transactions over several years it hasn't happened to me.

The key to using Paypal is to keep only a small amount in the account at one time and transfer your sales to a checking account that likewise keeps a small balance of maybe $200 in a free checking account. When the account goes over $300 we transfer $100. Transfers are the way to protect yourself if you are worried about the process or a third party debit. Only keep as much money as you can afford to risk. Its like gambling as you never know what might happen with the process being on the internet. If you sell actively you are online and it's easy to check your account daily and make transfers.
We have used it for over three years and I find it very handy as we receive interest with the debit card if we only advertise Paypal on ebay. We use it for UPS, USPS and when we did the taxes this year we just downloaded a years worth of accounting. It has saved us on massive amounts of record keeping for purchases, shipping costs and gas.
Our customers that have problems treat the account like a credit card when it is really a debit card. We don't use credit cards and would not sign up for a PayPal credit card. Try using the PayPal Debit card instead and keep a small balance in the PayPal account.

Greengate... I agree pretty much with what you said, although I don't practice it, re: only keep a small amount in the PayPal account. When I mentioned "charging" things to my PayPal credit card in an earlier post, I was refering to using the Debit Card as a CC. Rather than transfer money to my checking account, I used the CC function to drain off my account, paying everything from gas to groceries to bar tabs. That way I get a lot of cash-back credited to my account, and the money sitting there earns interest.

People who signed up for Paypal after Oct 2001 do give Paypal the right to go into their bank account to cover any chargebacks to your account. It is part of the TOS. If you signed up prior to that change in TOS, they don't have the right to go into your bank account.
