WOW! Good for them! They sound really nervous about the whole thing though, I sure hope their nerves hold up! This will be fun to watch.

I've talked to a Carnival authority, he says there were only two known perfect specimens. Should keep going up too. Bob

I don't think I would trust Paypal for this if it were mine, cash or certified bank check only....of course I would also ask the person to come and get it...what if something happens in shipping.
thank god it isn't mine, i would have to be instituionalized

They started it out at 5 bucks with no reserve and it's now over 12 grand. I bet they were shocked when they checked their auction the next day. I wonder how many bottom feeders have emailed them early on to end the auction and sell it outright for $25.00?

at $12,050, am I correct that the FVF would be about $193.87?
And they sure can't send it via the Post Office since they only insure up to $5,000!
Good for the sellers though. I thought I was nervous with a $1000 sale, I can't imagine how I'd be with one over 10 times that!

Seller took extra pix but too bad he/she doesn't have an ISP site to show them by merely adding to decription with URL.

I'm sure that they'll gladly pay a $192 FVF, and be even happier to pay a $400 FVF. They can send it USPS. Registered. Insured for up to $25000. Triple boxed in this case I wonder if fakes exist for this stuff?

You love to see fun stuff like happen to people that expect it the least. If I wa the buyer - I would buy that bad boy it's own insurance policy before it was shipped in addition to insuring thru the shipper.

There was a discussion on an ebay board about this auction recently and this was part of a post from the discussion
"Greetings. Thanks for the Carnival Glass post. It will go not to an ex-Enron exec (buyer) I would guess, just a fanatic. I sat behind a barefoot farmwive who paid 17 or 19 K for a rather ugly piece of CG and set it down beside her bare feet, and kept bidding all the rest of the auction. There are about 3 specialized CG only auctioneers in the country and folks fly their planes in from CA when the older collectors sell off. Remarkable!"
$17,000 or $19,000 for a piece of carnival glass and then set it by your feet? Barefoot farmwive having that kind of dough?

Once two scruffy looking middle aged men in overalls came into our shop and looked at our Carnival Glass. They kept saying,"Leave it out" about the best pieces. My husband was really worried and asked a co-worker what she thought they should do if the guys wanted to give a check. He didn't need to worry. When the time came, one of them pulled out a wad of cash that would choke a horse. Turns out they were some of the biggest Carnival Glass collectors in the country. You just can never judge a collector or antique dealer by their dress or lack there-of.

After re-reading the description, it appears this could be an inheritance or part of an estate liquidation. There's a long shot possibility that they may not have to pay any income taxes on this transaction. Definitly a time to make an appointment with a really sharp C.P.A.

Up to $ 15,000 with just hours left and the top bidder has shades and 0 feedback...ugh! Poor seller must be a trifle worried about that! Did you see the counter at the bottom? 33,000+ hits ... I wonder how many boards have the link or if these are all carnival collectors?!!

On a deal like this I would get my money in hand.
So I knew it's a done deal, Then I would hand deliver it.
To anywhere in the US!
By plane or by car I would make sure it arrived safely!!

Several years ago there was a very scruffy looking guy that came into my shop. He was carrying a backpack and purchased a beautiful Carnival glass bowl and paid with cash.
I was very surprised at the time as it seemed like such an unlikely purchase but after reading antique519's post it could very well have been one of the same guys.
You can never really judge people's wealth by their appearance. One of my jewelry suppliers used to dress in a suit. Then he was mugged and had all his sample cases stolen along with one-of-a-kind designer pieces. He then started wearing ripped jeans and a t-shirt and has travelled safely for years now.
