Does anyone know what this is? On the bottom is stamped made in Mexico - purecopper. The number 507 and then the writing(?) in black enamel paint. It is a hand hammered copper bowl. I found this at an estate sale with a lot of other oriental things. It doesn't make sense though that it was made in Mexico then signed in Japanese or whatever. I know that CBlev65252 knows about these things from some of her posts.
Thanks!

I don't know if this will help but the is a large Chinese population in Baja. in the early 1900's a company set up businees in the border city of Calexico California, they hired 1500 men from China to run their fields across the city in its sister city of .. Mexicali (cute huh?) They brought men only allowing no women, no family members to keep the men focused only on work. Eventually these men met and married local women but retained as much of their culture as possible. This has resulted in a Chinese influence in the art from the area (not to mention a surprisingly large numer of Chinese restaruants). It has also resulted over many generation in a noticable number of Latinos in the area with Oriental features.
