I bid on an auction via the "paypal buy it now option." However, since seller's paypal account will not accept payment from a non verified address account (that is, I do not have a credit card), I could not pay via paypal even though I have the money in my paypal account. This left me wondering whether I had even won the auction, so I "back" spaced to the auction and it appeared that the auction was still open.
I bid again, but the bid command kept appearing so I thought eBay was not accepting my bid--I figured it must have something to do with my original bid. Finally, I got a command that made me realize that not only had I won the auction, but it was actually a multi-lot auction and I had won 4 lots instead of 1. (Each time I bid, I had "won" again).
I wrote to seller immediately and explained the problem, asking him to negate the three excess auctions--no response: he's a relatively promonent seller, so his failure to respond makes me think that he may be unsympathetic--you bid, you pay. (By the way, there were 12 lots total; no one else has placed a bid).
I wrote to eBay and explained the situation, again with no response (it's been about 19 hours since my first contact with eBay support). I bought from this seller last month without a hitch--I'm not sure whether it was a multi-lot auction or not.
I've been using eBay since 1998, and this is the first time I've confronted this particular problem.
Any suggestions?

I tried to cancel the three bids a couple of times, but get back a message saying that I have no "pending bids". I'm assuming that the distinction is that once I win the auction, the bid is no longer "pending", thereby disqualifying my "executed" bid from being retractable. But it does seem weird that I can't cancel out the bids/auctions.

These are not bids, they are purchases.
The seller can not cancel your purchase, like cancelling a bid.
I had a buyer do this on a $24 listing this last week. The final value fee's are able to be gotten back by filing for FVF Credit, but the listing is gone and no refund is possible.
Hopefully you have an understanding seller, who is not out to give you a hard time. Maybe if you offer to pay for the item re-list they will be more understanding. Filing for FVF fee credit takes time, and item sits on the shelf till the matter is cleared up.

I can see trying once and gettin the 'no confirmed addresses allowed' message but 4 times? I'm a very easy going seller and I would let you buy just one item after what happened but many sellers can be hardnosed about stuff like that. There are a lot of complexities to buying and bidding at ebay, even for long time users.
