I have a problem with my sons computer. He has Windows xp, and shares the computer with his 2 brothers. The 2 younger ones log in under their own user name, and theirs seems to be just fine which is what makes this so weird. The oldest one who is 16 gets literally 30 pop-ups a minute under his name. He has 2 pop-up stoppers installed and they are running during all this (panicware pop-up stopper and something that starts with messenger). I checked his history and he visits some adult sites which I'm wondering if that's the problem - his computer is now targeted or something. At least I told him that's the reason and he has to live with it now. Any suggestions on what we can do? Do we have to buy a program to stop these pop-ups (as well as an adult site blocking program)?

He doesn't use Kazaa, but he probably doesn't know how to delete the cookies and clean out his cache so I should go do that and see if that helps. I'm sure the sites he visited dumpted tons of cookies too.

I am Mac based so it may make some difference but their Safari browser has the Google toolbar built in to it and I have to say that thei Pop up stopper is amazing. I have not had a single pop up since I turned it on.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

I use one from panicware. It stops everything.

Well, I cleaned his cache and installed the toolbar. So far so good. Wow - it's like a world of difference. The toolbar is pretty neat - I may just put that on my computer. It tells you how many pop-ups it stopped too (which was only 2 in 15 minutes since I cleaned out the cache, and one of those was from google itself)

DO go to SpyBot and download and run that.
I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who has ever surfed the net, and who hasn't? Also, while you're there, download JavaCools Spyware blaster, it automatically blocks so many cookies it's unbelievable. It actually intergrates into Spybot and all you have to do is to run the "immunize" tool every so often, it will be on that page of SpyBot. It will say "you have JavaCools installed. Click here to run that".
Oh, and after you install SpyBot, configure it. Go to Settings/File Sets and check everything EXCEPT registry entries.
Trust me on this one.
These are two of the BEST tools besides the Google toolbar to have on any computer. You'll see what I mean once you install it and run it - and see all the GARBAGE that lurks on your computer. These are incredible free programs that are worth donating to. All of the serious computer websites highly recommend them for everyone.

ouch! Let's try this one. I actually go over to another board on ezboard and use their "automatic insertion" ubb link to paste my links. Don't know what happened on that one....

Oh, I also wanted to add, you'll need to know this:
"Select all problems (this button will only be able in advanced mode by enabling the expert button setting)."
You'll want to enable expert for sure! Otherwise you can spend a long aggravating time checking each box off to have it fixed.

The google toolbar popup stopper works great. I use google a lot so it's no problem having the toolbar for me.

Set him up a new user account on the computer, and copy his working files to the new users directories. Delete or stop using the old user name.
