Here's the latest furor going on at the ebay discussion sites and on the ebay dissusion board. You just knew it was coming.

Quote from 'the other board'

You can still opt out of Checkout, but in order to do so, you CAN'T choose PayPal as a payment option on the SYI form, and you have to click that you DO accept PayPal in your Preferences. Could they make this any more confusing? Well, could they? Well, I guess they could. This is eBay, after all.

Why are there so many 0 feedback users posting on the eBay message boards? If they are that afraid of ebay, why stay and take the punishment? Sellers made a big mistake by not building up another site when they first pushed checkout on them, now the hens are coming back to roost.

The zero feedback posters are usually veteran ebayers that have a special account for posting on ebay boards. It's very foolish to post there with a regular ebay account.

I found it to be better to not check the I accept paypal button as it simply caused more trouble than it was worth. I simply put it in my terms within the auction listing.

I personally could never see what the problem with using eBay checkout is?? Why are so many people against it?

Unfortunately, just like over here, I am anonymous there as well. I've posted before, and had someone threaten to bid on my auctions and give me negs on every lot just because they didn't like something I said. I've actually been here longer than my ID suggests, because my old ID used to be the same as my ebay ID. After that threat, I created a new ID.

Do you have any idea why the eBay boards are so contentious?

I started a thread over there once (just once). The vicious invective and sheer vitriol was astonishing to see. I've been participating in message boards in various forms for decades. Never seen anything as no-holds nasty as the eBay boards.

I certainly would not post there expecting to get a useful answer.

The specialized boards ( such as stamps or coins ) are a good place to get a fast answer to some questions as there are always knowledgeable people there.
On the busy main boards it's also like an IRC ( Internet Relay Chat ) as the responses scroll by fairly fast. Most of the people are regulars and they do not seem to want to bother with new people and they'll help you out just to get rid of you.

Some of the ebay boards are asking for help from ebayers by ebay brass and are very informative.

Here's an interesting thread on possible future changes of the ebay item pages.
