I have been trying to decide what to do with this opportunity. My great uncle has about 2000 country and western (and a few popular music) records from the last 50 years. He wants to unload them for some cash. He wants to get 25¢ each ($500 for the collection). He asked me to put them on Ebay for him and offered to split the profit.
I considered offering him cash for the collection and then selling the records in smaller lots over a few months, and pocket a few dollars for myself.
Does anyone have any experiance with items like this? Is it worth the time of listing items like this singly or is it better to blow em out as a lot?

If the records are original sought-after first-pressings from the 1950s/60s
in near-mint condition then it would
be worth it to list them. If the records
are common LPs or re-issues in
less then stellar condition, you may
want to pass on listing them.
I've sold 11,000+ LPs on Ebay from
1999 to 2002, mostly hard-to-find
jazz, blues and folk recordings.

Rob, I love Country records and can't find them in Vegas. I bought 2500 from one person locally only to get about 300 C&W's and still trying to sell the rest in lots of 30 and 50 each.
I might be interested if you decide to sell as a lot so keep me posted or send me an email to [email protected]

PS: agree with beatnikera. If they are near mint and covers are also, they would be worth listing. The used record stores have flooded Ebay with perfect records and put most of us with those with "normal" wear and tear out of business in that category except in lots. Even then, I only have 15 to 20% sell through since some of my covers are worn with record rings and some splits even.

I am curious, what are C & R Records? Am I missing something? I always thought it was C & W, standing for Country & Western.

I haven't sold many records on ebay, but what I have sold usually has not been worth the effort. I would say if you have access to the records, you can do some research on some of the titles. If you don't know what you have, you might take a loss...
It must be Country & Restroom music.
As opposed to:
Country & Elevator music.
It couldn't be C & W for they have neither restrooms or elevators in the West.

When did this term come about?
I've been listening to music all my life and most of that life, country music.
I've been in hundreds of music shops and never saw a C&R section.
However I've also been in hundreds of restrooms and heard country music there!
