What a disappointment.
I have been waiting for the free pickup to start and now find out it isn't available here.

Is it available at your address?
You can check here: https://carrierpickup.usps.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/CarrierPickup.woa

Hi Whatnot,
When I asked my postman if he had heard of it yet, he was kinda like" Whatz the big deal?" He told me he would and always has picked up anything that was properly posted.

Maybe you should just ask your postman?

I have USPS pick up for 12.50 or Free if you give it to your postman, I have spoken to my postman about him picking up packages that are all ready for shipping with postage and he said, sure not a problem, but I did say to him that I would like to do that if I have One, two or three small to med. size packages and he said yes thats fine.

But I also said, when I have more then that I will call for special pick-up and he agreed with me very quickly.......and we both laughted..........so I do have the pick up where I pay but I only use that once a week,. tomorrow will be the first time I am giving a few packages to my postman it's free and helps me get out items that were paid with paypal. I don't want to wait for my once a week pick up since they paid quickly for the item.

Just wanted to add, my mail carrier says he also scans in the item when he picks it up. He says it is part of his job. It does not go to the central mail system without being scanned. I found that interesting since I dropped off 2 packages at the counter last week and they did not get scanned until delivered to the customer!

But if you go to the link and enter your address, does it say that pickup is available?

I used the Free Carrier Pickup service about a dozen times starting in December 2003 and as recently as last friday. I went to schedule a pickup for tomorrow and now suddenly it's not available in my area.

Funny, it says its not available in my area. I wonder where it is available? Anyhow, my postal lady has been picking up my packages everyday for 1 1/2 years. We have a system, I put a flag out on our mailbox if I have a pickup. She then drives in, comes up my stairs and loads them all in. I have had as
many as 25 packages in one day. She is great. A Christmas bonus and a pair of Birkenstock sandals once a year and I've got free delivery.

That's not quite true. What happens with packages that use online postage with eDC is towards the end of the work day, one of the clerks will take the packages, weigh them to make sure proper postage is on them, then run them on the scanner. In your case, it could be possible that they forgot to scan those packages, which would be purely a human error thing, but they normally will be scanned. I found this out when I had to pick up a package and there was one of the clerks doing this.

They have always had free pickup as long as your regular postal carrier can take it. They are just trying to add special pickup times. I have been giving my packages to the carrier for some time now with online postage and eDC, works great.

I just tried an address in Milwaukee and it said it was available. I guess it is only for bigger cities.
I guess I will have to just keep going to the post office.
We have a few different mail delivery people here and they get annoyed enough when they have to bring packages in. (except the Saturday delivery guy that likes to give biscuits to the dogs)
Even if I felt like trying to get them to pickup the packages, I know they wouldn't like it at all.

I just wish that Fedex could compete on the 1 and 2 Lb packages so I could drop USPS. He is happy to stop by every day.

If you use this service do have to wait around for the postman to show up or can you leave the packages on your front porch?

In the FAQ it says that if you use stamps then you have to be there when they pickup. If you use a meter or PC postage then you can just leave them out.

Hi StoneCold,
Yes, I know they are supposed to be scanned at my local PO and most are. I am currently keeping track of non scanned DC's. I called USPS 800 last month and complained about non-scanned DC's and they have asked me to provide them with a list.

My local PO (Callaway, Floirda) has recently won the #1 ranking of PO's in a 5 state area for customer service and they certainly deserved it in my opinion. But, there is 1 counter clerk who I am almost positive is the problem. He happened to be the one who accepted the 2 packages last week. He is also the one who told me last month that not all DC packages were supposed to be scanned. After he made that comment, I called the 800 number and asked.

He also gave me the fifth degree last month because I was shipping software Media Mail. He was going to refuse the package until I told him the website said anything that could be read by a computer could be sent MM. I bet he looked it up after I left.

Most of my PO experiences are great, but this guy needs a serious attitude check. I thought about taking him cookies, but he would probably claim they had poison in them, lol.

Here's a link to Endicia web page that lists the zip codes where this service is available. It was posted on one of the ebay OTWA boards
