Well, I believe I may have actually made the error that led to my first negative a few months. I left a bidder a negative for non-payment and he left one for me for not sending his item.

The seller claims to have sent payment via USPS Money Order for $13.50. He even gave the money order number. So I believe him, plus I remember about 2 weeks ago receiving a payment and took it to the post office to cash so I could use the money to pay for postage of one package. I find it odd that I still didn't credit the proper auction though. I have received a few other payments via Postal Money Order since then, but unfortunately don't remember receiving it from the bidder. I always make sure to notate it as paid before I cash it, and this is the first time in at least a year that I even considered cashing a payment at the post office. His feedback said something like, "I sent payment via Money Order for CD, but never received it." The strange thing is that I didn't sell him a CD. I sold him a shirt. When I left my follow up I cited that he is mixed up because the auction was for a shirt, not a cd and that I never received payment.

After pointing fingers over the last 24 hours via email with the bidder, I thought about it, and realized there could be a small, very small chance that I was the one that created the problem. I emailed him and told him that I am an honest seller, and it is rare for me to make an error like this, but it wasn't impossible. I asked him if he could have mixed up the auctions and possibly sent payment to another seller for a CD, but got the auctions mixed up. I also asked him to check with the Post Office to see if it was cashed. He said he would.

Can I also find out if it was cashed as well through the post office? I guess I could always just use his name to verify it. I already have the money order number.

Suggestions???

I would let him check that out as he is the one that bought the M.O. wait and see how it turns out and then beg for mercy if you screwed up.

I won't beg. I don't beg. This is one of those times where the new mutual removal policy will come in handy for both of us. I know it won't remove the comments, but at least it makes the situation for both of us a bit better.

I knew there was a good reason why I always made a photocopy of my money orders and checks. I know it's just more paper to push around, but it sure keeps my records straight.

Hope everything turns out okay. Good luck!

Copying the check/money order is a good idea, but you can still forget to copy one and not notate it. Nothing is truly foolproof.

I have a small checklist I use ("for office use only"-type form), and one of the check-offs is when I've heard from the buyer, another when payment is received, how much, and on what date. I do this before I leave feedback and prepare for mailing the item.

Dr. Phil: "How's THAT workin' for ya?"

Me: "Just fine, Dr. Phil!"

i have all of my paperwork printed and waiting for payment....when payment arrives i put the envelope payment came in with the shipping paperwork before i cash the money order.

this has not failed me yet but i can see it happening if, say a payment arrived just as i was leaving for the post office or opened the mail in car.

we all make mistakes, just hope you can correct this if it did happen.

good luck to you.

RUSTY, Why not go through Square Trade and have the bidders and your NEG removed if like you say its your mistake. It will cost you a few bucks but its probably the right thing to do. That is just my thought and who the heck cares what I think anyway. HA HA.

MAY THE LUCK OF THE IRISH ALWAYS BE WITH YOU

I'm not going to pay for it to be removed. Most people acknowledge that sellers are not perfect. With a 99.3% rating, and over 3600 positives, I'm not really worried about the negative. It's the first in several months, and I'm under the impression that Ebay will now remove the neg points if both parties mutually agree to it. Is this still true?

I can't pack most things ahead of time for a few reasons. 1) I have about a 5-10% NPB rate because I sell many things to younger, less responsible people. They often don't pull through. Prepping something ahead of time is a waste, I tried it before. 2) I ship internationally and use Priority Mail for US orders. So prepacking something that may end up being the wrong packing is fruitless.

i agree that pre-packaging is a waste of time....the only thing i print out is the Vendio invoice.

i keep these invoices all together and when payments come in, i pull that invoice and place it with the envelope on the item...

then i package and ship it the next day.
