Hi all,

I have this little ring which is almost coppery in color. It's marked 14K and manufacturer's name Gensler.

Is it rose gold? Red gold? Not sure what to call it...

The wider band in the picture is standard 14K yellow gold. I'd appreciate some help from the jewelry experts here.

Thanks,

Lucy

Hi Lucy

My understanding is that the alloy in yellow gold is copper and silver and in pink or rose gold the alloy is just copper.

But I could be wrong.

Hi Kiara,

Yes, a higher percentage of copper in the alloy produces the red color.

I'm just wondering what term to use in describing the ring. Rose gold or red gold. This is the first piece I've seen in this color.

I have some Black Hills gold jewelry and the decorative gold used on it is much lighter, pink.

Thanks for the help!

Lucy

I've always wondered if the copper tarnishes in some of the gold over time depending on how it was made. I've seen some rings that look very copper-colored opposed to some of the old rose gold that seems to stay a beautiful pink color and never changes. Yet they can both be marked 14K.

Maybe some expert here can answer that.

I can't remember hearing the term "red gold".

I'd call it rose gold.

I seem to recall that some Black Hills Gold pieces are made with small amounts of impurities (other than copper) that affect color. But I can't find a reference to it now. I may be confused.

I saw a BHG ring that had been worn daily for nearly 20 years. Much of the detail was rubbed smooth. These pieces are great for occasional wear.

I think I'll describe it as deep rose gold... How does that sound?

Here's a site I found that uses the term red gold.

Thanx for the input, always appreciated.
