Husband and i been sellin' on ebay ever since it wasn't named ebay ... we're doing a major cleanup to get rid of J U N K that is broken or just will not sell, to get ready for a big good sale this summer ... well, my husband must have put at least an interstesting assortment of trash at the curb early last night ...
In the evening, a truck, a van or two, stopped and started rummaging thru all of it and my neighbor yelled to them 'hey, that stuff ain't sold in 10 years, it sure as he** won't sell now' ...
...... and just now, I got a real laugh ... approached the sanitation deparment crews ... first the recycle truck guys diggin' just a bit through the regular trash and grabbed something and 'put it up' ... i didn't see what it was, but suddenly, the regular trash truck crosses right in front of them to pick those boxes up, and the recycle guy yells to them, "WOOHOOOOOOOOOOO!!! EBAY!!!! EBAY!!!" ....
... LOL! that just cracked me up.
[And my neighbor last nite was right ... there was nothing good in there ... we even know what to keep to sell at our 25-cent yard sales ... our trash was definitely TRASH] ....

We have to call the city a week before the bulk trash day to make an "appointment" for a pick up. I can't remember the last time there was anything on the curb for the truck to pick up. One week my husband wanted to get rid of some large junk but we had not called in time. He put it out and before the city truck came the next day it was gone. The freelancers don't seem to need the same amount of notice as the city.
My sister called in a panic. There was a story in the Dallas paper that the city council was considering an ordinance that made it a crime to take anything that was put out for trash pickup. This was supposed to discourage identity theft but she has made some good money on things left for trash pickup in her alley and she was upset. She never heard anymore about it so hopes it did not pass. -----o----o----o----o----o----o----o----o

Oh I'll be the first one to admit I stop by curbside trash TOO and have found a few great things [and a few not so great things ... let's not go there LOL] ... ... ...
It just seemed comical in this particular instance, especially if the recycle guy thought he really 'found something' even tho' the curb searchers last night picked through it quite thoroughly. ... and his 'woohoooooo' and 'ebay! ebay!' ... what a nut.

I guess it is a sign of the economic times we live in. I remember when it was just third world countries that had people rumaging through trash.
There are now several pick up trucks that roam our neighborhood on the night before trash pick up.

we have major cleanup days each year. specific neighborhoods are scheduled at different times with a specific pick up point. everyone takes their large items to this pick up point and the city pays to have it hauled away.
what is left that is, the day the truck is due, the pile gets so picked over that there is very little left.
actually, my favorite end table came from that pile years ago...i just wish i could find the matching one.
