Watchers (in My eBay 2.0) is the number of people that have added that particular item to their My eBay Watch List. I'm not familiar with Andale, but I would imagine that their view count is the number of "hits"(or times your item has been clicked on and viewed). Basically, they add it to their Watch List for easy return access to review the item, monitor bids, or to snipe it at a later time.

I love this feature. It gives you an idea of how many possible serious bidders there might be. I use the Watch feature myself when I want to monitor an auction, and possibly bid as times goes by.

I recently has 11 watchers on one of my auctions, but not a single bid. I guess they are watching for different reasons than wanting the item, manybe because they have a similar item to list.

I know that when I see something that is a "want to have" as opposed to a "gotta have" I usually put it on my watch list and see if I still want it in a few days. Most of the time I end up realising that there are more responsible ways to spend my money and pass on the item.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

We have noticed that a significant number of eBay customers do an early, low bid on our auctions as a way of bookmarking them for later bidding. They consistently bid early (and low), but not again - probably too discouraged by the intense bidding (and prices) near to the closing bell.
We have noticed that there are usually as many watchers as bids, especially on the more popular items we sell.

MY take on THIS new "My eBay" thingy IS, ... after looking at this for a week now, and seeing how many things we list have whatever number of "watchers", great or small, then NO bid?! ............ I think ebay should ALSO put "# of Watchers" on the 'My eBay BIDDERS' page ... THEN all those people "watching" will see however many others are also "watching" it ... just MIGHT make the bidding go stronger .... who cares about 'watchers' for Pete sake?!!, ebay should care about BIDS coming in.
eBay is reporting the WRONG thing to the WRONG part of members' "my ebay"!

I'm nearly finished with my free trial month on ViewTracker. I don't think I'll be springing for it at this point. The keyword searches were helpful but not much of a surprise.
However, on an item that had been listed for several days with no bids, it was somewhat comforting to see there were watchers and snipes set for the item.
In the past, I've gone in after about 5 days and sometimes lowered the price, hoping it will sell. I don't do that anymore. From now on, I'll hope there are snipes set and not lower the price.
